I have heard of people getting numbers off of a engine and looking them up on the net. If there is a thing, Where would you get these numbers off of a new(er) engine, and where would you go to find out what engine it is, by the numbers??????

If the engine in your truck is stock, there really is no need, you know what it is and what it came from. The only time you really need the casting numbers is if you don't know the origin and type/size of motor. Casting numbers can tell you the year it was manufactured, vehicle it was originally in, 2 or 4 bolt main, and probably a few other things i don't know about.
On a chevy, the main casting number is on the rear drivers side of the block, and if i remember right so is the year of manufacture. The code that will say what it came from is near the intake mounting surface, too early to remember right now if its front or back, lol.
Heads also have casting numbers underneath the valve covers that will tell you the size of the combustion chamber, when they were used, and on which engines.
Im not sure if all of this, or any of it, applies to fords. But thats all i know.

The motor that’s in my truck now, didn’t come in it. A week before I bought the truck it had a new motor put in. I have all the paper work from the new motor, just not any info on it...Year model... I was just curious if it was the same year model motor, as the truck. (99-99) I’m trying to learn all I can about this motor for future work/mods. And from what I’ve been told, true or not, the 99 model motor is a little different than 00-02. So...It’s basically a curiosity thing.
