i hope so...the house should be able to withstand that. and i'm about 5 miles from the beach, so the storm surge hopefully wont creep that far.

As long as you are dead center where its predicted to go your safe, thats the safest spot because they always hit somewhere else.

i would also look for it to go north of there, how far is yet to be determined. i would say between port charlotte and cedar key. i know thats a big cone, but its still 3 days out.

I've got money on it hitting St. Petersburg head on. Someone should start a betting pool on where hurricaines hit.

true true...actually if the path veers east towards naples in the next 24 hours or so, i'm packing up the truck and heading up there. i dont wanna be stuck on I-75 with that damn thing coming at me.

damn, thats too close for comfort right there...we have a pretty big canal at the front of our neighborhood that has gotten quite high during a good downpour. and for some reason the county doesnt like to open the wiers too often to let the water flow out into the backwaters, thus draining to the Gulf. so if we get flooded, i'll take pictures, hehe. but only time will tell, thanks man

it's supposedly the worst hurricane this year, worse than katrina...record pressure...but yeah either way it's not cool. i'm hoping my parents on the east coast will be ok..:-|

it'll be weaker than it is now on landfall. i've been looking at some of the models and satellite images and i think i'm going to have to retract my previous prediction. it was based on what some of the grad students were saying. i should have stuck with my own thinking. it looks like the cutoff low that was supposed to pick up the hurricane may not actually do it. it may move more to the north, thus keeping the high pressure ridge more in place. the model spread is unreal. there's a 1650 nm difference between the gfs and gfdl model. i don't have access to the fsu superensemble but i'll try to check it tomorrow at school. this hurricane will make for some interesting forecasts.

You didnt show me that one! We should go to the range... makes me wish i still had the ar-15. Anyone is welcome to sleep on the couches, one nights free, the next cost ya. I also sleep prepared  . I pity the fool who tries to break into my house. Between my room and lloyds it would be a lead curtian drawn quickly.

yeah. i've talked with him several times. he's a weird little man, but he's cool. during fsu football games when the run the fsu commercial and talk about hurricane forecasting, he's the one they show for it.

good news folks...the house is still here. our power got knocked out yesterday at 4am, and we already got it back! we had no damage to our house at all...metal storm shutters, a 1970's concrete block house, and a concrete tile roof took it like a champ. the county opened the wiers and emptied the canal at the front of our neighborhood so we only got water halfway up our driveway. a few trees got knocked down around us, and none of our cars were damaged. i consider myself very lucky...some people had trees smash their cars and houses, windows busted out, and roofs ripped off. a tornado touched down about 3 miles east of our house and did some serious damage, uprooting 60 foot trees and tearing through houses. i'll try and get some pictures up as soon as i can, probably later today...cause i gotta get them off my dad's digital camera. this was the first hurricane i've actually been through, and it was pretty crazy.
