I have no clue when, but I just got back from the Pontiac place because my little door lock knob broke and they got me a new one. Well I get home and park and see some "dirt" on my front bumper and on my headlight. I thought the boardwalk people had slung dirt on it while weedeadint again. I went to brush it off AND THE BUMPER FLEXES IN!! I look closer and its all scratched as well as the headlight, the alignment of the bumper on the driver side is off, and where it gor pushed up against the fender, it is split!! So I need a new bumper and headlight.

YOU JUST CAN'T FUCKIN HAVE NICE SHIT ANYMORE!!!! DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/images/smilies/gr_mad.gif http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/images/smilies/gr_mad.gif http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/images/smilies/gr_mad.gif

thats what living with 400+ college students in that complex will get you(even though its not your fault) but they have no respect for other people's nice cars.

do the conversion of the pic you posted...looks nice.

and take parking lessons from brett and park alone from now on, lol.

welcome to the club. i was in the garage last night working and looked at my grill. someone hit the front of my grill and cracked it. i backed into a parking spot yesterday and based on the height, i'm guessing it was a truck. i feel your pain man.

Yeah, Brett told me about that.

I just emailed JHP in Victorio Australia about the bumper. From what I read, they are like $560 (USD) and shipping is almost as much as the bumper. That might be a little much. I'm awaiting their response, and I'll also check on stock replacement bumper as well. If the stock one from Pontiac $600 I'm gonna have to go with that.

Brett's assessment,

A good bodyshop can fix everything. The bumper isn't that bad all all and plastic can be filled. My $.02.

So Geoff from JHP just returned my email. $1450 for the conversion shipped. I think I'll pass on that one!! hahaha

Also just for fun I inquired about the HSV Coupe4 body kit... the one that came on the AWD Monaro... $7000 shipped!!!

Also I just noticed this... their Avalanche kicks our's ASS!!

Yeah that plastic can probably be welded by someone with the proper equipment for much cheaper than a new bumper+paint. Just have the insurance company cut you a check for a new bumper and paint, then have someone weld it and just paint the one spot.

Unless the insurance guy will only give me money to do it that way, I am getting a new bumper. My mom said they when they did the estimate on her BMW it was WAY high, and it was fairly high when my truck got rear ended. So maybe that will help out with the deductible. I want it all right and all new, not half ass glued back together and buffed out.

I did go out and look at it again and it is hardly noticible. I guess my initial rage at people's idiocy caused me to exagerate a little (even I believe it was as bad as I said it was haha). All my paint is still there, but the lines aren't all striaght now (it was under a flourescent street light, so I could see EVERYTHING) and it is boogered up pretty good on that corner, so I want a new one. I checked on the bumper with a guy that hooks people up on GTO Forum. He hasn't gotten back to me yet, but hopefully he'll get me a good price on one. I'll also check with Jason Cromer after I get a check from the insurance.

If its a little crack and someone with an actual plastic welder did it would be fine.

But that probably won't work I just forgot about that because my family owns all our cars so they just cut us a check based on the estimates we give them and we can do with it as we please. And since I worked in a bodyshop over the summer we usually ended up with extra money or no deductible since I got the hook up there. If its financed then that doesn't really work since its in the banks interest that its fixed properly, and if they are going to pay for it I would just get a new bumper then.

Wow, that was a lot of writing to say basicly nothing.

I would seriously check with a bodyshop before you fuck with insurance. Unless I missed something earlier (which is possible), it is not bad at all.

Ok, I just looked again. Definately check with a body shop. The crack is less than a 1/4". I reacted just the same when I fucked my bumper up. Give it a couple days before you make any decisions.

Here are some pics for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Probably less than the deductible for a new headlight and spot match if it even needs more than a buffing.

SloNLo_350
10-26-2005, 10:34 PM
Yeah, the paint wasn't actually sratched... much. I rubbed most of the paint off. And like i said, when I was so pissed earlier it looked alot worse. But I am not gonna have a busted bumper on my brand new car. I want a new one. And if it happens again, I'll have another new one. Had it not split it, it'd be fine... and I don't care if "no one would ever notice it". I have a nice car, and it is gonna be done right!

Why not just get a whole new car since its not going to be the bumper that came on it from the factory. Its still won't be perfect. It'll have a different bumper and different paint. It'll never be perfect, just scrap the whole thing.

Or I'll just go get some Elmers and a blue Sharpie. That'll fix it for REAL cheap.

I agree, you should have it fixed the right way, if for no other reason than because you want it that way. It's your car and as you said, it's brand new (and not to mention, not exactly a cheap car). Therefore it should be done to the highest standards.

GTODealer on GTOforum got back to me on the bumper. $295!! That is great. I am also going to talk to Jason Cromer, because that would excellent if he could get me one at that price with no shipping!!

On a side note... remember the old messed up big screen?
here's whats left after my room mates got a hold of it last night. The police have been notified. Maybe THIS time something will get done. Maybe I WILL have some money for a shifter after all!

But if not I can tough it out for another few months. I'll just stay in my room ALL THE TIME, and lock the door everytime I leave. It kinda sucks, but I'll have to keep all of my food in my room too, because they eat anything left in the kitchen.

Yeah, it was definitely hit by a silver car. I also spotted a silver Alero in the parking lot with a scuff on the back bumper and the scratches on it were similar to the ones on my car. But I can't prove it was that car because there is no blue paint on his (but that scuff has no paint from another car on it, and its paint came off). But looking at the cars in this complex, I am almost positive that on that side lot, Brett's and my car are one of maybe 4 that don't have scuffed up bumpers. And mine and Brett's are the only ones that stay clean. No one gives a shit about their cars here!!
