View Full Version : Rear End

looks like a grenade went off in my stock rear end. replaced my diff about 6 months ago wtih an auburn. spider gears, springs, everyfucking thing is in peices. so should i go with a set up rear diff with new gears that i can't afford and pray it doesn't happen again in 6 months, or bite the big dick and buy a rear end, which i'm in no position to do so. the smart thing would be to do the rear end, but i'm not a smart guy--so i'm thinking of a new diff with 4.10's and putting street tires back on the rear which could prolly get taken care of by the end of the week. i'm sure a rear end would take some time(weeks) to get one built and sent.

someone make up my mind for me-- i think it would be easier to put a gun to my head at this point.

That sucks, Tony. I was so fucked up when I talked to you that I thought you were kidding for the first 10 mins and I barely remember the rest of the conversation. Who set up the gears and everything last time??

Would that mess with the ABS?
Ideally you would want a spool, i mentioned that when FlZinc messed up his rear but he couldnt cause of the brakes?
Same situation here: If you can, go with a spool and better axle shafts and forget about it.

Just got off the phone with art at slp and he could sell me an auburn diff with 4.10's for $509 plus shipping. but i feel llike this is gonna happen again within the next 6 months. i'm still undecided on the right thing to do.

In my opinion and research, staying with the 10 bolt is living on borrowed time. I can hear problems already developing in mine with street tires. As much power as your car makes, with the brutality of a manual transmission, the stock won't hold up. If you don't plan on racing it (yeah, right) and staying on the street, you might be ok with a stock style setup... for a while.

If nothing else, pick up a used/cheep stock diff and start working toward a built 12 bolt :tu:

sorry to hear that it sucks when something bad happens and you don't have the money to fix it.(a fact I know too well) just bite it and get a new rearend you will be happy you did in the long run, and you will also know that the problem is fixed.

Sorry bouth that shit. if you could find a 64" flange to flange 9" at the J/Y you could cut the backets off your 10-bolt for a quick fix. $150 j/y rear and some time. maybe... or go big with a strange ready to drop in.

buy a big rear, youve already rebuilt that thing, dont dump more cash into

i know its a big spend, but its well worth it to go faster, run slicks, and never have to worry about it

Again, 4.10's are too much!! 3.73's are perfect with the gearing in the T56's. Go with a 12 bolt and 3.73's.
