I have found a Miller SR200LA DC stick welder for a good price. I know this thing was manufactured in 1978, and was curious how long these welders usually last. Also, this welder has the low amperage range, so its current is fully adjustable from 0.5A to 310A. I would like to take SS2Win's advice, but I have a VERY limited budget. I will mostly be using the welder for frame work on my TR6, and maybe a trailer or two. I definitely won't be using it for any body work. Does anyone know anything about this particular welder? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Stick is not the end of the world - it just takes more practice / talent to work with it. you can get a "stitch welder" attachment that does a fine job on sheetmetal... So as long as it's been cared for then it should be ok. Miller has been a good welder for a long time. Older units are less efficient and may not have a smooth arc which can make it hard to learn with / use.

If the unit is local and the owner will let us try it out, I'll try to make the time to go check it out with you. The only thing worse than not being able to afford the "right" welder is buying the wrong one and being stuck with it.

Unfortunately the welder is in Tampa, so that's a no go. I really appreciate the offer, though.

that is cheap enough but are all the cables / clamps in good working order? you can sink another $100 into fixing it up. how long will it take to save $800? By the time you have $500 you may find a used miller 175 somewhere. :wicked:

if you're going to just get a stick welder anyways and you want something cheap, save up a little more and just get a lincoln buzz box. they're pretty cheap and reliable.

Save the money and go with a decent 210 Mig.... ALOT less headache and easy to learn. A 110 mig is cheap but dosent give as nice of a weld or is as versitile as a 210. Just my .02

Precision Tig 185 here, and a Mig 220.
