I am.
For no other reason than to just have one in case they sell more than expected and become scarce.. I'm not even gonna take it out of the box.. I've been watchin' em sell from $500-$1000 on Ebay.
Not bad for something that'll cost ya $428.00 to buy from a store.. IF you can get one. Some w/several games for well over $1000.00.
A gamble, but I remember the price spike back when the N64 came out at christmas and the stores were runnin out.

I'll probably do it just as I've done all the other consoles: Put off getting one until a game comes out that I really want to play.

I don't know man. That sounds like a gamble. Ebay they are going from $450 - $1400. If you bought 10 of the full package with the games at $399=$3990 and sold them for $600. That's a $2010.00 profit for just going to Walmart.

Yea, but a modded XBOX still only plays XBOX games, and next gen is going to blow those out of the water.

Thats my plan. I'm not huge on gaming but I do enjoy some Halo 2 when I get the time. So when Halo 3 hits stores I hope they have some good deals on the 360.

hahaha yall crack me up. camping out for a video game. ehhh whatever floats your boat. i heard on tv this morning that stores were led to believe they would have only a dozen or so rather than the 100s they thought. good luck getting one if that is remotely true. hopefully i wont see you guys on the news ........ "mob tramples several people for a video game console." :mike:

The only reason that the PS2s were going for $1400 to $2000 on ebay when they first came out was because of a shortage of chips due to some earthquake or some shit like that. Ever since then, there have been no such shortages.
Microsoft wants to make $$, and to do so means that they must meet demand. Believe me, the bean counters know how many to approximate. My guess is that there won't be a shortage, so I won't go thinking I'll make insane amounts of profit from buying 10 locally and selling them on ebay.

i belive they have chips that allow you to turn "off" the mod so you can still go online and play.
i'm workin on gettin an xbox w/a 120 gig hd and tons of roms w/it..but im still gonna keep my original xbox for live.

Even with the "off" button, they'll know your HD has been modified. Best way to go is just have a "clean" xbox.
We'll see the 1st mod chips for the 360 in about 8-12 months! You can bet I'll jump on one then.

That sounds racial and I don't like it.
Walmart is not releasing how many they have. At 10 PM they will start giving out numbers from the layaway desk (they still have that?) and sales will commence at midnight.

Who wants to make $50 by getting in line at Best Buy @ 5AM tomorrow morning and buying me the 360?

well, after waiting 4 hours i got my 360 at about 12:10.
ive got to thank DerekFSU for the heads up on the Walmart lay away thing and Dunstin F for tip on really how few 360's there were.
the walmart in perry had 6 total: 2 premium and 4 cores. i was #3 on the core.. #5 on the total xbox sales.
so, thanks to you guys, otherwise i woudl have went up there around 10 and been screwed till after christmas, which in all seriousness, when i was asking about getting a hd or games for it, the woman didnt know when they woudl be getting anything else but did knwo they werent suppose to get anymore consoles untill near christmas..soo.. there gonna be rare.
also, the gamestop in perry only had 6 i belive, and also wont be getting anymore in untill christmas. even the pple who have already paid for theres and have it reserved are screwed.
but ive got mine on ebay already ;) what a loser... :S
haha, just looked at ebay. I can not believe there are people willing to pay $1k to $2500 for the xbox 360. Oh well guess it will be Christmas before I see one, I'm not paying a hiked up price for something. Thats the same as paying over sticker on a car.

Yep, not worth it to me.
Although the HDTV capabilities are very enticing.
Just read a review saying the Xbox360 won't play all the newer Xbox games, thats kinda odd.
Yeah, the HDTV part is what got me wanting to get one since I just got that Samsung 61" DLP HDTV.

Xbox 360 old-game support needs hard drive - MS
Emulator will cope with 212 titles initially
By Tony Smith

Get breaking Reg news straight to your desktop - click here to find out how
Microsoft has posted a list of 212 Xbox games that are backward-compatible with the Xbox 360 - but only next-generation consoles with a hard drive.
The list, which you can view here, contains all the best-known Xbox titles. Games not present on the list will not run on the 360.
Unlike other console makers, Microsoft has chosen to implement backward compatibility in software. The downloadable app converts Intel x86 processor instructions from the original Xbox into their PowerPC equivalents, in the process compensating for the different ways the two CPU types store numbers larger than 255.
Microsoft said the emulation software would be made available to Xbox Live subscribers, from the Xbox.com website - as a downloadable disk image to burn to CD - or direct from Microsoft on CD. Presumably it's then installed on the 360's hard drive, though the website doesn't make this clear.
That leaves anyone who buys the cheaper Xbox 360 Core System out in the cold - it doesn't ship with the 20GB HDD that's part of the standard package.
Todd Holmdahl, Corporate VP of the Microsoft's Xbox Product Group, said that the emulator will be updated regularly as more Xbox titles are "certified" as 360-compatible. That suggests Microsoft is tweaking the code on a game-by-game basis to cope with coding subtleties in individual games that would otherwise break the general-purpose emulator.
It remains to be seen how all this impacts the 360's sales. Certainly, it's traditionally held within the games industry that the success of Sony's PlayStation 2 was in part due to its ability to play old PlayStation titles. That said, backward-compatibility is a relatively new feature for consoles - for a long time, buying a next-generation machine meant leaving your software library behind. Buyers coped with it then - maybe they will now.
The first Xbox 360 customers will primarily be early adopters - probably hard-core Xbox fans, who are going to go for the HDD-equipped version and will understand the issue in any case - and give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt. However, we wonder how many more casual gamers who already own an Xbox will stump up for the new model only to find it doesn't play their games collection. ®
interesting....

SOB. I decided not to flip the profit game on this one cuz I thought the payout wouldnt be as large as in the past. After the N64, DC, PS2, PSP, GC launches...I thought for sure supply would have been ample and demand much lower. History repeats itself and I'm out a few grand.

yellow05gt picked one up last night. pretty sweet setup. He got his from ebgames.
its funny no one seems to know when more will be released. M$ is doing a great job at hypin the shit out of the xbox360. Release enough to drive people nuts over it. Then have tell all the retailers it will be right at or after christmas before more will be released. But tell people to check weekly at the stores for them, cause shipments are being made weekly to stores.

Shoppers hit, robbed for prized Xbox
By Jennifer Jefferson
DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER
Shoppers, beware: While you're distracted shopping for this season's hottest holiday items, someone else might be checking you out - or punching you out.
Two Tallahasseeans learned that the hard way Tuesday after snagging the $399 Xbox360, Microsoft's uber-hyped game machine that offers the future now.
One man told Tallahassee police that he waited several hours at the Apalachee Parkway Wal-Mart to purchase the Xbox, when the store's stock of 48 models went on sale at 12:01 a.m. He got Xbox No. 29.
Thirty-seven minutes later, he was robbed at gunpoint, said John Newland, spokesman for the Tallahassee Police Department.
According to Newland, here's what happened:
The shopper, whose name is being withheld by police, noticed a gray vehicle following him as he left the busy store. He arrived at Heritage Oaks apartment complex and was heading up the stairs when two men wearing black ski masks got out of the car and confronted him. The shopper tried to run but was held at gunpoint by one man while the other blocked his path.
The shopper was elbowed by one of the robbers but not injured. The robbers got away.
People had lined up as early as 5 p.m. to get their hands on an Xbox, said Jemele Davis, assistant Wal-Mart manager. The store quickly sold out of the systems, which can play games and music, display photos and show DVDs.
"People were hesitant to take their Xbox out of the store," he noticed.
That was one option the unfortunate shopper could have tried, Newland said: ask the store to hold the Xbox or put it on layaway, so he could return to pick it up during daylight hours. Or, if he suspected he was being followed, he could have gone to a secure public place or called police, Newland said.
"(The holidays are) when our numbers start to climb," Newland said.
And the holidays are when tempers can flare. The hot little Xbox also caused a disturbance at the Sam's Club on Capital Circle Southeast later Tuesday afternoon, said TPD Lt. Taltha White.
Police were called, she said, when an off-duty employee got into an argument with a customer over who should get the first shot at buying an Xbox. Store employees decided in favor of the customer.
The female employee, White said, then punched the female customer in the face. There were no arrests.
"All of this over the Xbox," she said.
...he noticed a van following him...yet just went home? Or am I reading this story right?
