Anyone know of any good inexpensive body shops that do body kits? I had some people lined up at another shop and lets just say.... I left with my car in tears. Needless to say, I am looking for a good body shop that can do the work on my car quickly and since I already lost 600. on the first butchering I dont have a whole lot left to spend. Also, there is a big car show coming up the first weekend of Jan that I am suppose to attend so time is also an issue.

I have only been in Tallahasse about 3 months and I know NO ONE. Any suggestions would be of help.

Many thanks.

not sure of any cheap places, but places to avoid if you are looking at cheap include Roslunds and Body Builders.

on the side mostly, they wanted what Roslunds wanted for a same color paint job and it was $3k+...obviuously Mike wouldnt have charged me that much.

Go to Lisa's Paint and Body on Capital Circle N.E. Talk to Juju or Darrell, tell them Lloyd sent you. Darrell is an awesome painter and does some side work. They should hook you up.

Thank you all for the many suggestions.

The body kit is on the car... Sort of. The back bumper is on the car.. the side skirts on one side line up really nicely.. But the other one is about an inch and a half from touching the fender. (not short of reaching the fender - But sticking out from the fender) The fenders are on the car and looking decent. The corner meets up pretty well on one side but on the other the fender sticks out past the hood some. They were going to shave the fender back but when I pointed out that the headlight was already sticking out past the end of the hood they pretty much gave up and said they had done all they could do.

The place that did the job honestly didnt know what they were getting into. Thats for sure. My car IS driveable but I wouldnt go much further then a coupld of blocks. There is thing really holding it on (they screwed some stuff on but nothing is on really as it should be or filled in like it should be)

*Sigh* I work everyday this week from 7am-5pm. I am going to try and contact the shops that you mentioned and see if I cant get some price quotes and something done. I know lots of places are backed up because of the holidays.

Again, many thanks and I plan on checking back here often for any other advice you guys can give.

I always go to Anthony at Quality Body Shop on Blountstown Hwy. I sent Bryan there when he had the Cobra and he didn't punch me in the facce, so I guess he was happy with the work as well.

I called Lisa's. They wouldnt be able to touch it until late Jan and at this point... The car is not really driveable. I can't wait that long to have my car fixed so I am still shopping around.

I also checked out extreme. The guy there was really really nice and offered to let me leave it over night and get an estimate for it first thing tomorrow morning. So, the car is currently at that shop waiting an estimate. The guy Cliff at Extreme really seems to know his stuff and says he can make my car look how it is suppose to look and he said hopefully in a timely manner. (All you Mustang ppl are going to the BIG Mustangs/Fords show in Ocala right?)

Just when you think things can not get any worse.....
I had to take my car over to Extreme this evening to leave it for the quote. While driving it over there the hood blew open on me. Driving down Capital Circle is probably the last place you ever want to see something like that happen. Not only did it happen once.. but actually.. It happened TWICE.

Now my car has roof damage, the cowl thingy where the wipers sit is all busted up (this did get damaged originally at the shop that was doing the work but is now in little pieces), the windshield doesnt appear to be broken but after tonights cold front that might be changing and the hood got broke/damaged while in the process. *sigh*

Btw, I plan on posting some pics of before... butchered... and hopefully some beautiful after pics soon.

What in the hell is a car show? That would require me to wash the Cobra, right? Well, that ain't gonna happen.

My car is a 1998.

Hehe. I love to wash my car but HATE to clean my rims. Grrr.. The are pretty, chrome, and a complete pain in the arse.
I would rather stop at some charity car wash and give them $5 or $10 bucks to clean the rims... Just so I dont have to do it.

I got the quote from Xtreme yesterday. It is going to be about 6k dollars to get my car fixed and have it perfect again. He says he can get the car done in time for the show and such so... Guess we will see. I know it is a lot of money but I am sure I will be happy with the end result.

*sigh*

Stay tuned for the pics of it. They should be up in 2 weeks time tops.

What do you get for 6k exactly? Are they painting the entire thing? That seems kinda high for a body kit install.

I need to read over the estimate very well to see if the whole car is infact being re-painted. I believe it is but want to make sure I look at EVERYTHING. He has it all broke down by what section he will be doing, how long it will take him, and the cost per hour.

I know it is a lot of money and I am so scared that I will be taken advantage of again. I really want him to do the work because he seems to know what he is doing but is this to much to be paying? Also, he is doing the car in about a week and a half which is another reason Im sure the price is so high. I honestly have never had any type of body work done to a car before so I really dont know how much is to much and what all exactly has to go into it.

One thing I really do like about this shop tho.. is the fact that I can walk in or hang around while he works which is important to me. I hate it when a place wants to take my car around some building and I only get to see it when it comes back around front. I like to see the things being done to my car.

If you feel like you're being had, you probably are. Don't get it done unless you're 100% comfortable. Doesn't pay to regret it later.

I know this sounds a little sexist, but take a guy with you, preferably one that knows about body work. Play good cop bad cop.

That seems way to damn high, if he is going to be fixing the body kit, then sanding everything down to nothing and repainting the whole car, then maybe.

slowLX
12-24-2005, 06:27 PM
How bad is the damage? Also as far as I know the guy doesn't over charge, at least not me. But 6k is a lot!

The4BangerR/T
12-24-2005, 06:30 PM
all i no is when its done it will be a show quality job... and im sure he is repainting the whole thing cuz it would have to be for him to charge that much.

LilMissMustang
12-25-2005, 04:10 PM
** Edit**
I know I said 6k before. Sry. I was thinking it was 5,800 and was rounding up when really it is about $5,300 so there was an error in what I stated earlier. But again, this is an estimate and as it states on here.. work times may very so it could be more or less once he starts doing the work...

Here is the quote that I was given by them...
I know this is going to be really long and honestly I am not even sure I am suppose to make information like this public, but I really dont understand all of this. Again, Im not a body shop person.. So, any help would be great. I think the guy will do a great job and he is going to get my car ready in about a week and a half time. I am not doubting him at all.. I just would like some help in understanding this quote...

I am going to go by tomorrow and take some pics of it so everyone gets an idea of what we are talking about.

I know the car is in rough condition.. I already know this. I know the hood needs repairing now and so does a lot of other things.

Can anyone explain to me why there is an hourly rate for supplies?

Here are the only pics of the car that I have at the moment...
This was last Sunday morning...

This is before the hood blew open and messed up the hood and the roof. The bottom of the hood is cracked completely in half now and the roof has 2 nice dents from the hood smashing into it.. and the cowl now is broken as well.

I will post some damage pics tomorrow.. Stay tuned....

Overall, the labor times seem to be in line with what it should be. But, they are screwing you over by charging paint supplies and also body supplies. The industry standard is to charge for "paint and materials", which, here in Gainesville, is $22 per paint labor hour. They are charging you for paint supplies as well as body supplies. Actually, I would be able to help you more if you were to either fax or email me the exact estimate. Did they hand-write the estimate, or was it written on the computer? I own a body shop in Gainesville, and am willing to give you any advice you need.

I talked to J & K Auto Body today and they want me to bring by the car tomorrow for a better estimate. He said he thinks it will be between $3,500 and $4,100.

I have to wait for the written statement but I do believe that is to fix everything and to paint the whole car white again.

J & K also pointed out the double charge thing today and when I asked Xtreme if he was really going to use $1,500 in supplies in my car he told me he was. He also said that his estimate was normal for most insurance companies just a little more detailed then most.

????

I don't know... This body shop stuff is confusing. All I know is that I want my car looking like it just came from Ford (only different)... and to be back home ASAP.

Also, I took some pictures of it today while down at Xtreme. They look pretty much like the ones from before... only shows the damage that happen to the hood...

Those scoops you see in the picture are the ones that came factory on the car. I am adding the outter scoops so they look bigger if that was what you were asking me.. I was a bit confused.. Hope that answered your question.

And yes, That is Truck Options in the window of my car.. That was taken in there front yard... Guess you know where my butchering took place now huh?

J&K are on Blountstown Hwy.. Just a couple blocks off of TN Street.

I have stopped by everyday since I dropped off the car to check on things.... They have already stripped off the mirrors, wing, front bumper, and headlights. They already have one of the two fenders lined up perfectly and are working hard on fixing the shops mistakes. I am very pleased with them so far. I can go by and check on my car, ask questions (and they not sound offended) and I think they even came in today on a day off to help get the car done in the time frame that I need it to be complete.

So far, I am very pleased. Hopefully I am just as pleased with the end results as well.

Things seem to be coming along nicely on it.

I heard a nasty rumor today too.. I am not saying that this is confirmed to be true.. it is a rumor like I said... But from what I understand someone asked Xtreme why he was charging me so much to do my car and from what I understand he told them that he quoted me that price.. because he really didnt want to do the work.

How nice is that?

It sucks that a shop would try to take advantage of a persons lack of knowlege about paint and body, boobs or no boobs. That plain out sucks ass. I treat all my customers with total respect and give what I feel is a fair and just est. If I dont want to do the work I will tell them right off the bat not try to price them off.
