I pulled the dif cover back in oct and knew the ring gear was chewed up but i finally got around to knocking out the pinion a few days ago:

I think my timing advance and/or secondaries are f*cked so right now a kia does have more torque.

don't forget that yours went through the same thing. but this last go round, it looked like a bomb went off in mine--but my ring and pinion were hardly damaged.
