i am in need of a new clutch. it'll be a little while and i need to get the truck running again first, but i want some time to do some research first. i think you all pretty much know my setup. ls1/t56 pretty much stock. won't be putting down more than 350hp. would you guys reccomend another stock clutch or an aftermarket? i've been on tech and read a bunch of threads but i wanted to get some opinions and suggestions from here. it'll pretty much be a street truck with maybe an occasional trip to track. i'm not looking to spend a whole lot either. just something reasonable. any help is appreciated.

is it just the spec 3 clutch that has had so many problems blowing up?

if i were still at nearly stock power still, i would be putting a z06 clutch kit back it. i beat on mine for 55k miles and it held good and would have stayed good if i had not started making more power.

i'm just concerned on how long i'll get out of my current spec 2 hybrid. it has slipped after being heated up pretty good a few times now and i only have about 13k miles on it. but it has generally been a very good clutch except for the very few times its slipped on me.

whatever you do though, i'd go with a new flywheel when doing it. i wish i would have after the fact. especially after seeing how blued over mine was with hot spots.

just my .02

thanks tony. i have been leaning towards the z06 clutch setup. whats the main difference between the ls6 and ls7 clutch setup?

i'm not sure on that question. but don't the GM kits cost about $800 or so with a flywheel??

Z06 clutch for sure. Mine's been taking a beating for 30k and still going strong

Doesn't the LS7 Vette have a rear mounted tranny? I would assume that clutch won't work in a standard T56?

ALL C5 and C6 vettes have rear mounted transmissions. The flywheel and clutch are still bolted to the engine though.

i'd go with that spec 2 over a zo6 clutch for brians appolication. he carries around a little more weight, and a heavier duty clutch might work better.

can i slip the spec 2 at all or is it more of a hook and go?

you can slip mine, but i've also had it not grab trying to slip it at a really good rpm--but 99% it grabs when you want it too. i'm just worried about longevity of my clutch with the issues i've experienced with it. my old stock clutch got smoked and slipped, especially a couple of times right when i got it, but it never really did it afer having a bunch of miles being beating into it--so maybe my spec might do the same. i won't go with another spec unless i get 40k+ miles out this one.

longevity is what i'm concerned most about. my tranny is a complete bitch to take out in the first place and want to do it as little as possible
