My car will not run, is at a dealership 2 hours from me, and I'm 6 hours from Tallahassee.

Today was not fun.

In a failure, they have to prove the aftermarket part was the cause.

WHAt HaPPENED!????????

A ticking that sounded like a bad exhaust leak turned into loud knocking and then it died as I coasted into the Ft. Drum service plaza. It was a horrid horrid noise. The car is sitting at Ford and I hope to know more early next week.

It could be the timing chain tensioner, valves, a tiny unicorn, rod, etc. All just speculation until teardown.

Edit: Consult Lloyd, Ryan, Greg, or Brandon on your back porch for more information. They've all heard the whole story.

he mentioned he had an aftermarket warranty and who am i to question what its limitations are. also as he stated you have to prove the failure was due to said part. regardless, his motor isnt modded.

The only good thing is atleast you were able to get to the plaza. Now I guess your cleaning price will go up to help pay for your repairs.

Yeah, not good at all. It's fucking depressing.

I have a company car from my dad, so I have a car here. I won't know for sure for a couple of days, but I think I might have a bone to pick.

i hope, as anal as you are about your car, you told that dealer about putting their dirty ass hands all over your car while they're working on it.

the blue bomber had grease and dirt stains on it last time it went for warranty work.

Terrible news, man. I hope they get it fixed without headache.

lol...too late. The headache began at mile marker 175 on the turnpike. Worst sound I've ever heard. It took me 7 hours to get from West Palm to 90 miles north and back again.

The shit that really sucks is that I finished detailing the car probably 3 days before it all happened. IMO, the car looked the best it ever has and then boom.

I'm probably just going to start drinking until all my problems are gone.

Sorry to hear that man. Do you have an idea what caused it? Is it the beating SSTony mentioned? :wicked:

+1 on the mods thing, they gotta prove some aftermarket part did the damage.

Update:

The warranty company has spent the last three days trying to deny the claim. They initially denied stating "continued operation of the vehicle" but then changed it to "too many modifications." Quite shady, eh?? Well, after many phone calls and a strongly worded letter, we assumed legal action would be our only option. We had the jackass adjuster at the warranty company call the service advisor and go over everything with him. The service advisor said he would back me and I'm certain he did. The warranty company folded and approved the replacement engine and is footing a bill of nearly $6000. Fuck them, my mom is the shit, Service Advisor Jay is the shit, and I am going to get the car next weekend.

Edit: I forgot to add that when we first talked to the adjuster he said the following, "it is a well known fact that exhausts can cause the engine to fail like this."

Awesome news though. Hopefully it'll come back better than ever. Lookin' forward to hearing it pulling into Boardwalk.

Although I agree that would be nice, they are only replacing the shortblock. Even though the 03 has "forged" internals, they aren't bulletproof and certainly not worth adding the additional weight of the iron block. Frankly, I'm just happy that I'm going to get my car back.

Besides, the hassle with the warranty company was ridiculous and I never want to deal with this shit again.

That is great they are replacing it. I recently learned from someone elses experience that in most cases an aftermarket warranty is actually a "service contract" meaning they can deny your claim for basically any mods and the Magnuson Moss Act does not apply. However if you extend the original factory warranty the MMA does apply. Just FYI. Again, congrats on the new shortblock.

good news. we've had to turn a lot of those companies around and it does take a very stern voice to do so. extended warranties suck donkey ballz and i would recomend them to anyone. a contract will cost atleast $1800+ and i advise anyone looking at one, if they actually have that much money to spend towards one, to put it aside incase something major happens. they(warranty co.) just exhaust every option on how not to pay for a legitament claim. what really pisses me off is no matter what happens, the service advisor usually gets the inital blame----->why i hate my job so much

01-26-2006, 04:45 PM
I agree with SSTony 100%, the warranty companies aren't stupid, they make lots of money and they know how to do the math better than you. This is why they make money and not lose it. Same thing with those stupid warranties they try and sell you at CompUSA or Best Buy, and even worse are the home warranties that real estate people try to sell.

OH MAN--brett drove 6 hours to pick up his car only to find out his motor was still sitting in a crate. the advisor tried to BS him on saying the bolts from the mounts did not line up with the bottom of the engine. its a good thing brett knows a thing or 2 about cars cuz he told the guy he would be up there to see what the hell he was lying about. the truth unfolded with out brett making his way to the dealership and now he is driving a rental crossfire until they make the repairs.
i don't think brett will like his car when he finally gets it back b/c he's been drivign some nice smooth riding cars--like his used to be--for a while now

edit: the crossfire does mad burnouts with the sweet pilot sports on the rear.

That pretty much covers everything.

The car is being trailed to Tally next Sat or Sun. It will be backed off the trailer, driven to Zach's, and then I will spend the next 9 hours washing, polishing, sealing, and topping.
