Well, after waiting for over an hour, I finally got to pull it on the lift and he started hacking and welding and I was out 10 minutes later. I gave the boys at the shop something to talk about and man, it was loud. It sounds about the same at idle but when I give it some gas, especially in gear, it really opens up. I like it but like I said, its raspy. You guys will see soon enough.:D

Well after driving to Bainbridge and back, all I can say is that it REALLY opened up the top end of my car. Not only that, I sound like Im a freaking monster. Its really raspy under load but sounds just like it used to at idle but over all, I like it. Oh, by the way, even with my fucked up tranny, Im not a 14 second car anymore!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

what kind of exhaust system are you running? have you tried just getting a full MAC exhaust with headers and a Ypipe with no cats?

I havent heard a MAC exhaust on a LT1. I want a Hooker catback, they sound awesome. I almost had one too for $125 but it didnt work out. Oh well, Ill keep shopping.

Im running a "homemade" setup. Its like the loudmouth but with a Dynomax bullit instead of the SLPer. Its pretty much just a straight pipe.

It would be better to quiet the car back down a little with the mufflers Magnaflow instead of with the cat.

Yea, I want to. I am just looking for a good deal on a good cat-back. I dont know that I like the way that Magnaflow sounds on a LT1. I like the way my car sounds really deep. 8)

How are you not a 14 second car anymore?

My cat was clogged so it was slowing me down. I can tell a difference just by taking my foot off of the brake and letting it idle off of the line. Thats before I give it any gas:D

Well, I found out that my car was to loud for Bainbridge Sheriff. DOH!!! I got a warning for a sound violation 2 days after I get it cut off. He said I needed to get my exhaust "fixed", lol before I came back to town or I would get a ticket and eventually get my car towed and I would be walking.

What a cock. I have yet to hear this, you're gonna have to start it up for me later.

i got a ticket for "loud mufflers" one time. talk about a dickhead cop! it was during Bike Week for cryin' out loud!

brandboZ28
08-21-2003, 09:00 PM
He had plenty of reasons to give me a ticket because the car isnt REALLY loud until it hits 3500+ rpms, then its just down right nasty loud!!!

Tally TransAm

tell him to blow you because sound violation tickets dont hold up in court since cops dont carry decible meters

brandboZ28
08-21-2003, 11:58 PM
Oh, Im not even starting to worry about it. I just thought it was hilarious that it only took me 2 days before I got in trouble.

Greg, its loud isnt it:lol:

i read a story o ls1.com some guy got pulled on a on ramp out in cali w/out a cat(he was speeding though) and mentioned the cop told him it was a 10,000 fine for tampering with the cat(s) and that was federal law.

just thought id share, but i dont care as this makes 2 vehicles without cats for me.

brandboZ28

Its a $10k for the shop that tampered with it, not for the owner unless you put your own cat-back on and then I guess that could be pinned on you.

Tally TransAm
08-22-2003, 08:50 AM
its actually 25k if a shop tampers with it, max fine of 2.5k if you tamper with it

unless the vehicle has a certain number of miles on it. i believe its like 80,000 or something like that.

slmdLS1

thats the implied warranty by the dealer to replace your cat under 80k miles...it doesnt give you permission to cut it out though, but most do anyways

Damn, now Im worried. Ive been running mac headers, no cats, cut-out and a flowmaster muffler(which doesnt serve much of a purpose as the cut-out stays open!) for about two years now and had no problems with the fuzz. I guess I drive it pretty civilized unless tempted to do otherwise. With headers, I dont think no cats and a cut-out sounds as raspy. Has more of a deeper rumble to it.

brandboZ28

LT1's are normally a little more raspy than the LS1's. You wouldnt be able to tell that from Chris' car though:lol:

slmdLS1
08-26-2003, 01:46 AM
....or ryans

Slow ET
08-26-2003, 11:08 AM
I think you mean its the other way around. The LT1s have a full iron block which makes them sound less raspy and kinda like a normal car. Jons ride has a cam and full exhaust with a cut-out with no rasp at all.

brandboZ28
08-26-2003, 12:04 PM
My car has always been more raspy than any other LS1 that I have ever heard until I got down to Tally. Then I met Chris and Ryan:lol:

Hey Todd, what kind of welding are you capable of?

redmach1
09-03-2003, 10:03 PM
I have MIG'd a little, but I am no expert.

Greg Kulbick
09-03-2003, 10:19 PM
Could you, say, weld together the 5 pieces of a Dr. Gas x-pipe if they were clamped together in place and marked?

redmach1
09-03-2003, 10:22 PM
maybe,... on or off the car?

Greg Kulbick
09-03-2003, 10:25 PM
Either. Preferably on, to at least get it started with the x in place and perfect.

I will see what I can work out, cause this probably = using the lift.

Will he not let you work on non-emmissions legal cars during working hours?

I'm pretty sure that I know what a Hooker Cat Back sounds like except that I have no cats to be in back of.:D
