new rule (http://www.ls1tech.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB5&Number=676586&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=1)

NHRA rule change

TTop cars are now considered open cockpit cars, anything faster than 13.99 needs a 5pt

still searching if this is official and when it goes into effect

Nope, I know with Fun Ford Weekend. They are not allowed. I believe that is based off of NHRA rules.

Becuase of safety concerns on getting into a burning car fast and easily.

i can understand that. oh well. maybe i just won't take it to the track.

i can understand a convertible, but i can pretty much assure you the b pillar in my car isnt going to collapse. ttop is basically a hard top car, it is nowhere near an open cockpit

and the 5th point goes down the drivers side door.

if i go to the track and they boot me for no cage i havent even broke 11's yet, im gonna kill someone

i checked NHRA 2003 revisions and there was nothing about this, maybe its a 2004 rule. people on ls1 and ls1tech are saying some tracks are already enforcing this

ihra doesnt have a rule like this, to bad there are no ihra tracks around here

To bad that cage pictured isn't legal....

The bar has to run above your elbow area and below the shoulder.

Would really depend on track Tech. If he wanted to be a dick. It will not pass.

Edit: after looking at the pic some more. It "might" be legal. The seat is pulled forward to show the rear bars. With the seat back against the bar, it might be in the right place to pass tech.

i can understand that. there isn't much room at all once the engine is in there.
