You didn't notice all the pieces of the belt all torn up and wrapped around everything?

I've always found that belts work better when they're on the pulley and not shredded to pieces. ... Bummer Jon.

08-24-2003, 05:52 PM
That's not all. I should have just parked it, but instead I went to drive to try to get it to cool down. Drove on I10 for several miles, until I saw that the temp needle wasn't dropping. Pulled over, that's when I saw the belt.

No water in the oil, but look what I found in the coolant tank:

Im on a laptop and it has a tiny little screen. I can only look at like a quarter of the pic at a time.

Jon, get a new belt and flush your radiator a couple times. That might just be crap that has been in you radiator all along. When I drained mine, it looked just like that but when I flushed it a few times, it looked shiney and new inside. If you need any help, just lemme know and if Im not working or in school, Ill try and give you a hand. Good luck buddy.

that coolant sludge is normal jon

jlaw
08-24-2003, 06:58 PM
Hmm. People are telling me that sludge looks like coolant in the oil. That would mean a popped HG, and I'm not too optimistic about my motor. I REALLY don't want to replace the HG only to find out the motor is shot. Compression test tomorrow sometime, we'll find out.

I'm hoping the motor is ok. I didn't hear any bad noises before I pulled over off of I10, but I had to start it for 10 seconds to back it off the tow truck and it didn't sound so great.

Ryan, thanks again for coming out there.

Did my donuts look decent at least? I started spinning that way, I figured what the heck, might as well give it a shot.

yeah man, we need to get you mad more often, the donuts were nice! That sucks about your car man, my serpentive belt did that a month ago, looked like a spool of yarn when i took it out of the car. Hopefully it is ok, hate to see a badass ride like that go down.

jlaw
08-24-2003, 07:43 PM
Mad? I wasn't mad... I had no idea anything was wrong until I pulled off down the street. The car started to rotate in the direction of a donut, so I just went with it.

brandboZ28
08-24-2003, 08:00 PM
We all thought you were pissed at your car for not doing the 2nd gear burnout so you just started doing donuts:lol: They turned out nice dude. Sucks about the car but you'll get it fixed. Im pretty sure that your motor isnt going to be screwed. Do the compression test and then go from there. Dont get to far ahead of yourself and start shopping for forged parts quite yet. Just start with the little things and work your way up. Trust me, more times than not, its the little things that cure the problem. Plus, Im always having problems with my car and they just dont go away so I know.:) Everything will turn out alright, youll be back on the road in no time. Again, lemme know if I can help ya out. See ya.

Oh, where is the car, if you havent already, dont take it to a shop just yet. Id like to take a look at it if I get the chance.

Jon, If you want to flush the rad. reel good I have a cap that I cut the center out and welded a water hose fitting on it. All you need to do is pop open the drain and pop on this cap with a water hose attached and let it run for a while. It was my cure for air pockets when I was running duel rad. Let me know if your interested.

jlaw
08-27-2003, 11:48 AM
XS, sweet. I might take you up on that sometime soon. Brian (Lazer01) and I flushed the system pretty well yesterday using some prestone rad flush and just hooked the hose right up to the rad. Ran it until nothing but clear water was coming out, and the sludge is gone. Car seems to be running fine... only time will tell I guess.
