Ported heads Question

I have a buddy that has a set of ported heads for my truck. If I bought them, would I have to have a tune? or would the heads work without a tune? What sort of gains come from a set of ported heads????

IMO, you wouldn't need a tune just for a set of heads but i could be wrong i guess. You probably wouldn't see much of a gain in performance from them with a basically stock motor just because the engine doesn't need that much air. Depending on what heads they are and how big the runners are, you may actually feel a decrease in torque.

I say no also. What year heads are they, and did he upgrade the cams? If so then you need a tune.

depends on the extent of the porting, i'd say..and a tune would be best for optimal performance, maybe its just me, but if i got em, i'd do my best to look into getting a tune soon thereafter.
