View Full Version : I F*cking Hate Tallahassee Roads!

While I was trying to park my car at my friends house recently my car drives over the gutter and scratches really badly. Same thing happened on the way back out, even with me trying to maneuver it out safely. Everything was fine, nothing to indicated that something was wrong. I live in an apartment complex so of course I have to go over some speed bumps. Still nothing to indicate that something is wrong. I was driving back from school, making a left onto Allen Rd., I downshift into 2nd gear when all of a sudden, my shifter basically jumps out of the transmission and all I can hear is grinding. I roll to a stop going up a hill next to CompUSA. I am so pissed. Im really tired of hearing my car scrape on the road whenever I'm just trying to enter a business or visiting a friend. My car isn't even lowered, it's as stock height. I don't know what I should do. My car was towed after an hour to All American Ford on Tennessee hoping that something can be done and no dinero will be charged but there is a slim chance of that happening. I did it mainly to appease the parents. If my tranny is fucked then I'm just going to try to convince them to let me get a 03 Cobra tranny (not sure if it is a T-56).

I dont know where you are visiting, but my 05 does not drag like that. And if I were you I would not let All American ford work on anything I own. You really should call Havana Ford. They take pride in there work and do it right the first time.

I'm not trying to knock your driving ability, but I think you need some practice. I drive a lowered car every day and I very rarely scrape. My exhaust hangs way down too. It's all about angles and going VERY slow. No stock ride height Stang should be scraping that bad. They have ground clearance that rivals most small trucks.

The 03 Cobra tranny is a T-56. I am fairly sure it is not going to be a bolt on and go application on your car. You are going to need the crossmember, a new driveshaft, and maybe other shit. Just some food for thought.

I drive a bagged truck around tallahassee and I don't have many problems. I generally ride pretty low and I'm willing to bet my wheelbase is a little longer than yours as well. Its all in how you drive. your car should not scrape that much if you're careful. I fail to see however the connection in scraping your undercarriage and the internals of your transmission. Are you sure you're telling us the whole story?

My trans did the same thing... it was a result of shifting too fast with too little experience in my early days. THe last straw I think was powershifting at the track the weekend before it let go... so I think there is more to this than you are letting on. :bs:

I thought more about what happened and I figured out that it wasnt my tranmission that was grinding but it was my shifter riding on my driveshaft. It wouldn't make much sense for the transmission to be grinding and my car still climbing a hill only under the force of inertia. So I'm pretty sure that the tranny is still good, its just in second gear at this moment. And as for me withholding information, I was trying to be as honest as I can. I think my driving skills are fine because this is the first time anything like this has happened to me or my car. Maybe I didn't make myself clear when I initially posted. My car scrapes everyone in a while but that is just the undercarriage. When I scraped on Monday I was reversing out of a driveway onto a higher flat road and I think that is when my shifter got ripped loose. Anyways I just got a call from All American Ford and they said that I just need some new bolts to hold the shifter down and it will come to just under $50. I love my car and I try to take very good care with her so I should probably try to work on my angles and approaches with the road. But Tally roads still suck, potholes and construction every where, not to mention sand and gravel everywhere. I guess I'm not getting a new tranny, but I'm glad she's ok.

If it's under warranty why are you paying $50. Did you tell them you bottomed out. If so, bad move they would have replaced it under warranty.

I have a B&M shifter and that isn't covered under warranty. Whatever I rather pay $44 and get my dear car back then argue and not have the car done by today. I don't think my car is under warranty anymore I have a couple mods and I'm sure Ford doesn't want any part of that.

Do you live at the exchange? Car has strips or something? :rice: From the roads your describing I'm guessing it's you I see around.

That sucks man, but im still trying to figure out how a shifter gets ripped off by scraping the ground? Does the shifter mount some weird way on the new mustangs?

It sounds more like whoever put your shifter in didn't know what the fuck they were doing and didn't get the bolts tight nor did they use any loctite.

you think roads are shitty in tally, you should come drive around houston for a bit. i swear some of the pot holes here go straight to china

I don't live in the Exchange. I used to but I know who you are talking about, it is a silver 05 gt with black stripes and rims. My car is also silver, no stripes, with konig beyonds(silver and black "reverse bullit" rims) and LT headers. I am probably the loudest 05 Mustang in Tally with the exception of Chris but his car is yellow. I live in Arbor Station which is right next to the Exchange though. The B&M shifter has a flat mounting piece with a bar going towards the rear of the car, that is the part that got ripped off of the car scraping the ground. I got my shifter installed at Tuffy on Monroe and they did an excellent job because I really beat on my shifter and nothing has happened until I scraped it loose. BTW the bolts came with loctite already on them. As for the roads in Houston, sorry man just be careful and don't end up in Ching-Chang land.

Since I've lived here my whole life and driven only a few road trips I'm no road expert..... But is Tallahassee really that much worse than other cities? The little driving I've done everywhere else I've never noticed a big difference.....or ANY at all. The roads in Arizona(specifically Tempe) sucked for sure, the roads in Birmingham have just as much construction as I see here, and I see no difference in the amount of potholes anywhere else either.

Also, FSU's campus is a whole 'nother ball game.

The roads in downtown B'ham are trash, but all the roads out in the 'burbs are nice.

I'm from Orlando and the roads down there are nice most of the time. I'm not saying that all the roads are better down there but the majority are great flat roads ( I live near Disney).

i'll second that shit.... i was out there for work back in the summer and i had a company Astro van to drive.... oh man was it fun... that van has now been airborn and bottomed out.... and that was on a "flat" portion of the road..... man i miss that place.... just not the heat....

If you think these roads are bad just go driving up North. It's alot worst up there.

Here, the roads are good in the suburbs and suck in the city. We've got some potholes that could swallow the front end of most cars. Good luck with getting that fixed.
