Don't feel too bad Kevin, I paid 3.05 for Premium yesterday. They're blaming the latest price gouge on the Iran Nuclear conflict, bastards. Somehow we need to ween ourselves off of foreign oil cause until we do the rag head fucks will continue to have us by the short hairs.

I guess we'll have to get used to drag racing hybrid vehicles. "My next mod will be a high energy battery to move me solidly into the 16's".:D

hmmm....I really need to start looking for a beater...today I stopped on the way home from work at the cheapest place in town (The Base), and filled up...it cost me more to fill my tank, than what I made at work.

Another thing that really hits home is when it costs close to 20 bucks to fill your fucking lawn mower gas can. What a joke.

Yeah, my low fuel light is on, so I figure I have 2 or 3 gallons left. I am going to try and squeeze it out until Thursday and bask in the $.07 off at the Gate.

We've been hearing that for the last year...."Gas is going to be at $5 a gallon for premium by Saturday. I know this because my Uncle's brothers dogs friend works for the Gov't." It's unfounded rumors like this that create runs on gas that result in ridiculous prices. No one can predict the future (except for David Blaine, but he is the devil).[/rant]

Believe me, I don't want it to go that high. I know several people that work for Shell, ExxonMobil, and BP and they are the ones telling me that everyone will be biting the bullet this summer.

The only reason gas prices are high is because the government used Katrina as a eccuse to raise them and them kept it there. I know it destroyed everything down there, but weren't they just talking a few years ago about oil in foreign countries. So why if our rigs get destroyed should we suffer, if we are holding Iraq right now and could overthrow it and take all the DAMN oil we want and need!!

J8127
04-19-2006, 09:44 AM
Government has no control on gas prices, that would be OPEC, I believe

brm03d
04-19-2006, 10:25 AM
We don't even get most of our oil from Iraq. The U.S. buys most of their oil from Canada, they are our pusher (in drug dealer terms). Canada buys it from the world oil market over in Denmark. OPEC does NOT set the oil prices, the world oil market does. OPEC is designed to watch over the market and make sure there is no foul play between countries.

If you want cheap oil, move to the middle east. It's still 17 cents a gallon there. You might get shot at once or twice but at least you'll stop bitching about how high gas prices are.

High gas prices were bound to happen, it's called cost of living increases. Go buy a bicycle.

Just my two cents to make myself look like an ass.

OPEC controls about 20ish % of the worlds oil reserves this graph illustrates how OPEC sets their prices through quotas and production controls. They will pic a price they want per barrell and then shoot for that production number even though they can produce way more than that amount. Shortage always increases the price.

If you take a day and don't buy gas, people will either fill up the day before so they don't have to get gas the next day or wait until the day after to get gas. In other words, you still have to buy the gas, they don't care what day you do it.

That will put a dip in gas sales....if less gas is bought. Now I’m not saying that it will actually get results….

Bottom line, this is a HUGE industry that ALL of us are at the mercy of. Well, maybe except for Brazil. Complaining or trying to protest will do nothing. Simple, they have it and we can NOT live with out it. You will pay whatever they tell you to pay.

BTW, I think it is up to $74/barrel today... Last month contract was around $72.xx I think. Can't find the article again.

This is correct and unless we can all learn to live with less of the stuff the price is going to do nothing but go up. My favorite thing though is the oil companies tell us that it still costs less than a gallon of milk, well I don't fucking buy 30 gallons of milk a week.

I'm sure however that our excellent foreign policy will eventually result in cheaper gas, and a more peaceful, stable world.:moon:

Yea, and this shit with Iran is not helping the price. I don't think we need to go there either. Big mistake. Still 8-10 years away from having weapons grade enriched-uranium as well as having a non-government affiliated (yea right) martyr network of around 52,000.

Wild speculation of using tac-nukes to bomb Iran's underground nuclear centers. Yea, that would help the cause. You can't have a nuclear research program in fears that you will make bombs instead of electricity, so we're going to drop a nuke on you. If this happens, be prepared boys and girls, cause the shit is really going to hit the fan like we have not seen in a long time. Well, edit that, like I have never seen in my 28 years.

"I'm inclined to think it's not reached a peak yet," said Tobin Gorey, commodity strategist at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Sydney. "We're still faced with a tight supply-demand equation against the backdrop of strong economic growth, and there's still more money to come into the market," he said. He added that the Iranian threat was responsible for adding at least $15 per barrel to the oil price.

On Thursday, Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela, one of the world's top oil producers, said oil prices would reach $100 a barrel should concern over Iran's nuclear weapons capability lead the United States to invade the Middle Eastern nation.

The United States and Britain say if Iran does not comply with the Security Council's April 28 deadline to stop uranium enrichment, they will seek a resolution that would make the demand compulsory. Iran has consistently resisted calls to abandon its enrichment program.

What do you guys think will happen with Iran, do you think it will turn into a clusterfuck like Iraq (I support the war, but it is a clusterfuck) or do you think that a lot of nations will join in and it will be a world vs Iran type deal, or are they gonna sit on the sidelines again?

If war with Iran happens, would the enemy be in uniform, and would the battles be real battles, or would it be this shit that goes on in Baghdad?

Remember the Iranian hostage situation back in '79? Well, most won't actually remember it per se but I'll bet you've heard or read about it. Think the Iraqis are extremists? If this can of worms gets opened up, shit that's brewed for twenty five years is gonna come spewing out.

Somehow this stuff has to stop. Those guys are major extremists, and if this thing goes critical we're gonna get all we can handle until they're all dead. Anyone remember the news article from last year that said that one of the guys who was running for president there might have been one of the hostage takers from '79? I can't recall what the final judgement was, but it sure as hell looked like him and I think he was the one that was recently elected.

We may not like them, their politics, their religion or their nuke policies, but they sure as hell don't like us or ours. Sounds like a gang war coming soon to a TV or-God forbid-suicide bomber near you.

It goes back even further than that... all the way to 1953 when the seeds of resentment were first sown. Back when we helped oust the democratically elected government and reinstate the Shah... who then commenced to piss everyone in Iran off.

And just look at the recent statements from the Iranian president (quoting Ayatollah Khomeini)... them dudes are crazy!!
