i really want to finish the basic external mods and adds on to my car: heads, gears (which is an ongoing argument, 3.73's or 3.90's. i never go to the track, which will probably change if we move to gainsville, and like taking it on road trips) and cam. but i'm not sure where to start, what brands, or what sizes to look at. i really dont want anything extreme (loping cam and thousands of dollars) but I'd actually like to be "fast" and not "kinda quick". i'd like to shoot for mid to low 12's. and on that topic what are the benefits as far as HP gains from port and polishing my stock heads and should i have them shaved? is there a good cam to go with port and polished stock heads? you guys probably get it. any advice will help. thanks!

P.S. - and anything that breaks along the way, as long as its not under the hood, i dont mind replacing with an upgrade but only once it breaks. so upgrading the tranny and such i dont really care about unless its that big of a deal. i thinks its gonna go soon anyway.

12's is still "kinda quick" in my book, but to each their own. With heads, cam, and the gear you should hit mid 12's easily... providing you have a set of sticky tires and a rear end that won't explode on you. Go with a cam that matches the heads that you buy, you'll see better results that way. As far as what brand and where to get them, just do some research on the internet. Money is really the only limiting factor there. Porting and polishing stock heads really won't gain you a whole lot of power. And you'd only want to mill the heads if you want to raise your compression ratio.

12's is just the next step. after that comes the bottom end (stroking) and the block (basically rebuild with nice internals) so i can eventually supercharge it. i mean the engin/tranny/rear end has 150K miles on it so i cant go too crazy right now i dont wanna blow the engin or anything perviously mentioned at that. i'll probably end up doing the top end engin work first with a cam then a complete rear end assembly then bottom end/forged internals etc...and then super charger. if i keep it that long. i wanna pay it off then get a beater so i can focus on all this and not have to worry about driving it to work the next day.
