how reailable are they for daily drivers, what do you have to watch out for as far as things breaking on them, and how hard is is to do the ls1 swap into one?
thanks

The 3800 is a reliable motor. Mine has 94k miles and only had to replace the alternator and starter. As far as the swap is concerned. I've heard that it's easier/cheaper to just buy an LS1 from the get go. Will the T5 handle the kind of power you're going to want to throw at it?

Don't geta v6 one unless you want to be stuck with it for quite some time.

I'm just looking for something reliable and fun for cheep and the little 6 banger camaro just poped into my head, and maybe a ls1 later down the road when I have more time and money, any suggestions on cars that fit in that category are welcome, no 240's

Yea, but they didn't stop making the mustang platform. The shelby GT500 is also built by the same teams that built the cobra's so in escence it is still a cobra.

i was just messin with frank being that the camaro hasnt stopped, but rather "taken a break" between production years, hence the 02 cobra reference.

I'm gonna say the reason for the cobra (which is a mustang btw) not being made in 2002 and the f-body being axed are so not even close its stupid for you to make that argument. Then again, that has never stopped you before.

Look guys. I don't care if they made the Camaro or the Mustang when and where. I was not trying to start any shit..Before the cussing matches and crap start please remember what is posted on here is just ppls opinions most of the time, with some bs thrown in to keep it interesting. None of it is worth getting upset about. Here is a Great writeup of why production of the Camaro stopped. I think its fair and true. http://www.tinotopia.com/log/archive/2002/03/11/camaro_production_to_end.htm

Im on Brandon's side here. To say they stopped making Camaros because they are unreliable is just plain ignorant. If that was the case Ford would have gone under YEARS ago.
The article is more accurate when it describes its lack of quality. But that doesn't mean it isn't reliable. Plus Mustangs share the same attributes, plastic cheap interior and the like. Its American... thats what America does.
GM is beginning to make great strides towards nicer materials, better fit and finish, and just plain better interiors that before.

I talk reliability by expierence. I have never had a Ford leave me stranded on the side of the road I did have a Chevy engine EXPLODE in my face. It exploded so hard I was near deaf for a week and it blew the oil pan off. I was lucky it blew down not up or I wouldnt be typing this now. That is not the only example just the one that led to my dislike of GM products.

I've never had a Ford, and never plan to. But my grandfather had major issues with Fords (all Mustangs though) and Chryslers (driveline issues... what'dya know) back in the day so he wouldn't let anyone else in the family have either.

Sorry to hijack but i've always loved camaros/firebirds, but just like very damn GM car in past yrs they all have the same interiors and look alike. I love my mustang but nowadays Ford's buld quality has seem to gone down the shitter, with the interiors and exteriors of the new F-150's, mustangs expeditions and explorers, they're cheap and ugly. Pros and cons to both makers.Meh

Lt1's are just as reliable as any other engine besides the Opti spark but those rarely go bad except for Bo's. j/k. I think Mike (LowBow) is asking $4000 or less and it's a nice car I've driven it and it runs good.

not necessarily low mileage but just not that high but something that I know will last me for about a year or too with very little maintenance, what ever I get I don't plain to dog the shit out of it and I'm not going to drive like an old person but something thats fun doesn't have to be very fast but something with a little pep oh and ac is a must, thats the reason why I brought up the little 6cyl camaro as a possibility

There are a few problem cars some companies have, but to say that Fords or Chevys in general are unreliable is the dumbest thing ever. I hate seeing people argue over the whole Ford vs. Chevy thing, because everyone has had one or the other blow the fuck up. I'd say that both are equally reliable.
Without actual numbers on real problems with real cars you can't make an arguement for either being unreliable just because every Ford or Chevy you've seen has fallen to pieces.
My arguement for hating Chevys is based off of ugly looks(excluding LS1 CamEros and Z06's) and the worlds worst interiors.
More on topic: Get $6000 together and buy yourself one sweet ass Fox-Body!

i kind of beg to differ.... i know it has nothing to do with a LT1 or LS1 but look at the 6.0l FORD POWERJOKE..... over 70+ TSB thousands of Buy Backs and Chevy having 17 Tsb's and Dodge have NONE NATTA ZIP ZILTCH. but every car manufacturer has their ups and downs....
