is that truck a lemon by now?

Gt
08-06-2006, 10:53 PM
Yes and no. Lemon law isn't all that great really. After you go threw BS hearings with ford over it. You get a prorated return on it. Basically you pay for the time/mileage on it. You don't end up that great if you have a bunch of miles like me.

Nothing to do with that. The EGR Cooler is a pos design with solder joints, Which can't stand up to the exhaust temps and melt. causing the water to go out the exhaust. The fix is to bypass the fucking pos. But that requires welding/cutting. Plus I don't have a tune on it right now.

Well thats good not the powers fault so just bypass the cooler line with a solid hose will fix your problem never heard of an EGR cooler gotta cool that hot air I guess. To bad you cant just tell Ford to do that.

Yea, I spent the weekend in Nashville and its not any cooler up there at all.

That sucks about the truck, again, again, and again. We might have to start a slogan saying, "Just say no to the six point oh" if this keeps happening. I wish I would have known about this though because I went through Chatty yesterday morning. I could have given you a ride if you dont mind riding in a bowtie with no AC.

Many times...guess I'm going to have to go ahead and do it. The '06 model started Job 2 and they changed a few things. Suppose to be a lot better. shrug.

Megacab is a ridiculous marketing scheme because no one needs that much room in the bed. The point of a pickup truck is having a bed to put shit in.

That's why I have a GMC for towing and a Ford for playing. It just turned over 134K miles without any trouble except for a fuel pump that went bad a couple of years age.

But his wasn't a 6.0L.

I understand your agony, each year of the 6.0L got better especially the updated calibrations. However each new year brought new problems.

You don't have a head gasket issue also do you?

Gt
08-10-2006, 10:18 PM
So far in order of repair:

1) 4 injectors due to o-ring leak -fixed by dealer in NC
2) EGR Cooler - fixed by dealer in SC
3) Head Gaskets - Fixed by TLM
4) 1 injector (causing hydrolock) - Fixed by TLM
5) 2 injectors (no power) - Fixed by dealer in Valdosta
6) 1 injector (causing hydrolock) - Fixed by TLM
7) = Now, haven't heard yet but assume its the EGR Cooler again

Benjamin
08-10-2006, 10:24 PM
of the 8 injectors that have been replaced are any of them the origional ones that came in it from the factory?

Gt
08-10-2006, 10:26 PM
No clue, since they have been out and changed at different times. Safe to say at least 4 are probably not original lol

Just talked to the dealership, the tech is out on a test drive so she couldnt' find out what was left to do. But she did say they put both new head gaskets and a EGR cooler on it. She wasn't sure what else without talking to the tech.

08-11-2006, 08:05 AM
Holy Crap head gaskets again???... Did you ask them if they had any 06's on the lot that you might like?

Gt
08-11-2006, 09:33 AM
Damn it!

Service manager just called back. The tech had only ordered the Headgaskets and EGR cooler since he knew he would need those. He just pulled the cab off the truck to work on it today. And won't know if he needs anything else till later today. So it looks like the truck won't be done till the middle of next week.

Benjamin
08-11-2006, 09:37 AM
sux having to remove the cab to replace the headgaskets..... not something you can do in your driveway.....

Gt
08-11-2006, 09:38 AM
You don't have to remove the cab to replace them. TLM didn't. Some techs just like to do it that way.

if it says to in the service manual, they get paid to do it, whether they actually do it or not--but it has to be documented like they followed service manual directions.

There was a updated service manual release, that says not to remove the cab. Due to, to many customers complaining of cab noise afterwards.

Just talked to the dealership, looking like Tuesday it will be ready. They found a slight scratch in the cyl wall. But since you can't even catch your finger nail on it, ford won't do anything about it. Also this part kinda has me concerned, she said there are a lot of missing bolts on the engine. She said it looks like the people that have worked on it previously just lost them or left them out.

You don't have to remove the cab to do the headgaskets, it just makes it 208752035702485720487x easier. Talking to Jeff at All American, he says it only takes him about 30 min. to yank a cab off an F-250.

Tony,

If you are going to get another diesel, wait for the 6.4L coming in the '07 model. The 6.0s don't really have a good track record.

best advice i've heard.....:taunt:

EDIT or if you want to stick to Ford buy an old 6.9..... they ran forever cause that's how long it takes you to get from Point A to Point B..... or find you an old tried and true 7.3....

Got the truck back yesturday. Looks like my best bet is to trade it in. I spoke with Ford and Florida Consumer Services about the lemon law. Ford said they would probably buy it back, but it is not in my best interest to do that. Since thanks to Florida's lemon law. I would only get $20,423.00 back for the truck.

Here is how they arrive at that figure. Purchase Price x Mileage Divide by 120,000. Subtract that from Purchase price.

$40,000 x 58,731 \ 120,000 = $19,577.
$40,000 - $19,577 = $20,423

I would get ~$26k on trade in.
