Weld Wheel seeks bankruptcy, plans to sell assets
By DAN MARGOLIES
The Kansas City Star
Weld Wheel Industries, a Kansas City maker of high-performance automotive wheels, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this morning and plans to sell its assets.
The 21-year-old, family-owned business said it lost $1.1 million in the first six months of this year on net sales of $21.8 million. The abbreviated bankruptcy petition did not break down Weld Wheel’s debts, but said that the company has total assets of $31.6 million.
The bankruptcy documents stated that Weld Wheels has signed an asset-sale agreement with American Racing Equipment Inc. in southern California. Terms of the sale were not listed.

I've got a very nice set of Draglites that I'd sell you. Rears are brand new and come with ET Drags, never been mounted.

I wouldn't be worried. Someone will buy the rights to the wheels from Weld and continue making them. It appears AR might already be in the process. IIRC, SSR went bankrupt a while back and the same thing happened. Another wheel manufacturer bought them and continued producing their wheels.

Jared knows the Former owner of AR... father of present owner of AR.
He has a bad ass golf cart, and we used to leave our clubs over at his house. Maybe he can get some Weld hookups now.

There are plenty of successful american companies that still make all their stuff in the USA. (edelbrock) Weld has a solid product with a cult following. This bankruptcy and selloff is caused by their management's inability to adapt. Have you ever seen weld commercials, or any sort of large marketing effort? Is weld mainstream? No. Is Edelbrock, mainstream? yes. Has weld diversified? barely. Has edlebrock? yes, they have expanded to many different product lines, intakes, heads, engines, nitrous... everything to stick to their ideals, which is MADE IN USA.
Weld shot themselves in the foot, here.. But their name will live. It's gonna get bought up by someone like edelbrock.
