yeah, it's either the tune, or fuel pump i'm guessing. i know i had the fuel sys press completely relieved, should you hear the pump doing something. this is a brand new damn pump but i cant hear it doing anything. hope its something easy but right now i just want to blow the whole fucking car up!:hissy:

Try completely unplugging the cuttoff switch. Crank the car then put it back in. When I disconnect mine to replace fuel filter, the little red button never pops up.
and yes. you should deffinatly hear the pump prime the system.

ok, dropped the tank, found out the power wire to the pump was loose. well fixxed that fired right up and ran pretty smooth for about 30 sec. turned it off. now try to start it agian and have to hold the gas to the floor to get it to run, and it is very very rough. and dumping fuel out the exhaust. any ideas?

i'm thinking the fuel press reg i bought is the reason. or at least i am hopeing. i have never seen a car just dump fuel out the pipes like this so i hope this is nothing very major. like i said ran like a charm for about 30 seconds, turned the car off then started again and only runs with the gas pedal close to the floor. and runs really really rough. hope i can clear this up.

Welcome to the world of boost, LOL!
When I put my Vortech kit on I had plenty of problems originally. With the exception of the tune being rich (which I expected), my oil feed always leaked (steady drip), my ignition coil went out 2 weeks later, vacuum leak, PCV not working right, you name it.
I've got my car 100% straightened out now. It's been a rough road, but its worth it.

Check your plug gaps. What does your stock gap call for and what is it at? Also, did you change your heat range on the plugs at all?
Also, check your fuel injectors for proper seating in the manifold and on the rails.

Yeah, a tune could be too rich.
I know its a different platform, but my stock plug gap is 55 (most people run 60), and I gapped them down to 40, only to get spark blowout in high RPM/load/boost. I went down to a 30 gap. Not sure if it would help you or not though.
Do you have a wideband air/fuel gauge? If so, what are the ratios like?
luv_my_z28
08-26-2006, 08:30 PM
If its running that rich you may have fouled out some plugs, i'd swap them out and see if it changes. BTW, again a different engine, but i run mine gapped at .035 and stepped down to tr6 plugs which i think are 1, maybe 2 heat ranges colder than stock.
If its like others i've seen, it shouldn't run quite as rich when your driving so you shouldn't have a problem witht that. I would bring an extra set of plugs with you to swap in before they start tuning though too.

no wideband, and they are brand new plugs gapped at 35 nkg's. i have a check engine light on too. i told the tuner i needed the egr, air injection, and rear o2's off so i will find out monday if he took care of that. if he did then i know i have something else throwing codes. i will just have to wait and see.

Assuming you're using a Diablo tuner or a SCT Xcalibrator you can look up the DTC (CEL Light) codes on it. Then, you can go to any mustang site and look up the DTC code - it will give you what it means, what could be causing it, and possible fixes to it.
Even if my car had a dynotune (which it doesn't), I'd be driving around with a wideband regardless if I boosted an originally NA car. Its just peace of mind, and in alot of cases can help diagnose problems and/or power issues.
Like I said earlier, putting a Vortech on a car is a PITA as far as little problems, but its worth it in the end. Just don't get pissed off and neglect the car for a week like I did. I would get so pissed I stopped working on the car and put it up for sale I was so frustrated. Believe me when I say your first WOT pull hitting boost drones out all the troubles, LOL!

Coy,
My brother Scott and I just finished up a Procharger install on his '99 GT. We ran into some of the same problems you've had (fuel pump, tune, running rich, what have you). 2.0TooSlow is sooo right about it being worth it. We had John come over from Superchips to tune his at Lamotta's and he put down 387 HP and 385 TQ in 95 degree air. Assuming Jake is putting you together with John on the dyno, you're in very talented hands.
Keep the faith- it's all going to be worth it very shortly.

I know exactly what you are going threw I had so many problems with my old procharger setup. To me the miss sounds like a problem related to fouling. Change the plugs then let it idle if it doesn't idle good then you are still probably dumping way to much fuel, also becareful because to rich could wash down the cylinders and cuase the rings to loose their seal. I can bring my scanner over sometime this week and hook it up on your car and pull the codes for you.
Let me know if you need my help man.

I have seen cars gas foul the plugs in seconds. I had a 300z do it in under a minute. It took awhile to figure out the head temp sensor was bad and the mass air meter I had just put on was bad....I hate new parts that are no good.
The 88 will foul them just trying to crank it, if you are not carefull. 42# injectors like to dump a lot of fuel at startup.

Negative! Do NOT run pos plat plugs in a supercharged car or even a N/A one. Plat = pos for performance.

Yeah bosch or any platinum pug is garbage!!!! On my old svo, I went through the set in like 5 mins!!!
this might explain the gouge burnt into the SVO's head and the 2 burnt pistons......that's cause a platinumn plug is designed to create a good lean burn condition that is excelent for a STOCK N/A emissions compliant stock tune. though on my expedition it ran like crap with the cheap autolights.... went back with Motorcraft replacement Platinumns and it ran ALOT better.... come to think about it that might be why on the performance tune mine pings like crazy on 93..... might have to try it again later whenever i feel like spending 1.5 hours installing plugs to see if they will cure that........ your 2.3 and Coy's supercharged setup WILL NOT like a lean burn condition as Tony stated earlier. also it dosen't hurt to go down a few heat ranges as stated before..... treat the supercharger like a nitrous setup and back it down at least 1 step colder if not 2 and then it depends on the tune (timing, fuel delivery, boost, etc.) on if it needs to be lower than that....
ju015dd
09-09-2006, 09:04 PM

according to Autolight's page you stock use AP764 if you used platniunm 764 is the plane jane resistor plug..... according to their heat range thingey 1 step colder is a 763 so 2 would be 762.... i dono what stores stock those.... also NGK's is the tr55 stock replacement and a tr6 is 1 step colder.... i wouls ASSuME that a tr65 would be 2 steps colder...... hope this helps Coy.... Tony please chime in on if i am correct as you know the modmotors better than i do.....

Speaking from a parts standpoint, you should really be careful just using random plugs. I know you wanna get it running right, but you need to make sure you aren't going to screw something else up in the process, Just cause the numbers are lower it doesn't mean it is a colder plug.

If it is an Autolite plug then yes a lower number like from a 764 to a 763 is a colder plug but like posted before an NGK TR55 to a TR6 is a step colder.... their system is different..... that's why 5.0 guys run Autolight 25's stock and 24's or 23's on a nitrous setup.... yes the number is lower and yes it is a colder plug...... i speak from the been there done that experience.....
