I changed my oild yesterday and ever since then, I have smelt oil when my car is running. I did drop a very small drop of oil on the passenger side header but there is no way that it could still be causing the smell of oil after driving it all night last night and all day today. I triple checked the oil plug and filter to make sure they were on tight and the oil cap os also on good. Im lost, its kinda stinky.:???:

How so?
And the car has no leaks other than from the timing cover which it has done since day one. Its getting fixed in a few weeks when I do the cam install but there isnt any leaking on the headers/y-pipe.

dunno about lt1's but if its leaking from the timing cover could it be the front main seal?

The oli pan gasket runs along the bottom of the timing cover and it has a tendancy to leak after it gets some mileage on it. Thats the only leak on the car as of now. Tomorrow might be a different story.

Lets change out the oil pan gasket. I get out of class at 6:30 tomorrow. How long should it take?

um...bo dont you have to take off all the accessories and then the timing cover just to drop the oil pan?

No. I would go ahead and change it but why do it now when it will be 10 times easier when everything is out of the way during the cam install. I can live with my car smelling like that, its just kinda annoying sitting at a light. Ill also look around under the hood some more today just incase I do have another little leak from the valve cover gasket or something.

Maybe its left over from waiting until you got up to Sonic to put the fill cap back on.

It was on, the smell was what was making me think that I forgot to put it on. Im just gonna install my goodies ASAP. Oh, I got a lead on a tranny too:twisted:

T-56?

Well, I saw a good deal on one with all of the goodies then some but they still want way more than I have. Im thinking about putting in a used 700R4, which is what I have, and have someone rebuild the one that is in the car which will cut back on down time. To use a term from Adrian....WEEEEEEE!!!

Yeah but if he gets the T-56, he has less money left over to do other shit, which gives me time to catch up.

lol....you beat him, but all of a sudden YOUR playin catch up.
he already has the other shit, so the t-56 would just be icing on the cake

My cams are in Virginia. But there is more money in my account. I still have the longtubes, X, tubular k and a-arms, coilovers and Strange struts to go in. There's so much crap in my garage there's probably something I'm forgetting too.

A bolt on 4.6 without slicks isnt going to beat a cam swapped LT1 with a built tranny(its coming ;) ), well, not if I have anyting to do with it.

Back on topic, I did find out why my bitch(car) smells like oil, cause the small leak from the front of the oil pan gasket grew to a nice little stream. I gotta get those cam parts fast and fix that:oops:

Dont see it with bolt-ons cause that Bill dewd from TCH runs 12.4s NA bolt-on GT and is one of the faster bolt-on GTs. Better get some 4.56s

Strange that it happened right after the oil change. Did you try to snug the bolts to see if it would slow down the leak, until you fix it?

Oh well, Ill probably get under there this afternoon and see if I cant tighted the pan bolts up a little but if that doesnt work, its just a fire under my ass to go ahead and get to work and get all the parts and change them out.:D
