Any computer experts here???
I want to setup something to store files at home that I can access from anywhere over the web. Something secure and reliable. I used this product from buffalo technologies called a terastation, but it always had issues. Something that does it's own backups too.
The other thing is I have a couple of pretty basic websites and my current hosting company is discontinuing service, is that something that can be setup at home too, or would it just make more sense to have it with another hosting company.

I would not host websites at your home. Your home upload speed is going to be way slow compared to a reputable hosting company. Your upload speed now becomes the end users down load bottleneck (most likely, unless they are on dialup).
Switch companies and ask if they can set you up an ftp account that is not web accessible. You can then upload and download files from wherever you want.
I can recommend a company if you like... :secret:

I build, use and sell a Linux box that does a whole bunch of things from VoIP services to file storage, VPN and web hosting. I can put one together for you that does everything you need and more. If you don't want to host your site(s) from home on this box, I can do that as well. I own my own facilities and sit on a 10M fiber connection directly to a major hub in 'hotlanta.
Here's a brief description of the system SystemONE (http://www.linuxsys.com/index.php?id=84)
Not to hijack or anything, but just how low is your co-location?
