Don't think anyone has asked this before so here goes. A friend and I were involved in a discussion about car heaters and why it seems that older cars blow hot air faster than the new cars. Any idea as to why this might be true? I've noticed that with my dad's truck, same engine as my Altima, the truck blows hotter air faster than the Altima. Ideas?
Restrictors in the hoses?

faster as in sooner on cold start?
hmmmm... don't know
I found it interesting that on some (maybe all idk) Volvo's the heater core hose leaving the block connects to a metal pipe that wraps around the exhaust collector like 3 times and then connects to the firewall. an awesome idea, why wouldn't all car manufacturers do this??

I dunno bit thank god they dont. Noone would be able to put exhaust on a car ever again

Could it be that the truck has a higher power altinator so it can push more power in which makes it blow faster

----- Oh just hit me maybe the KA in his truck has a smaller coolant track, as in the rad, heater core, and hoses etc or maybe the valve on your heater core hose is not opening fully, or maybe his truck idles higher, maybe his water pump is going out so it heats up faster lol

well it was a simple metal flex hose, like a flexible rad hose. would be easy to by pass or make your own. I mean we don't need improved heaters down here but I bet that beast gets hot when you need it

I think he means the air gets to a warm temp quicker on start up, not necessarily blow faster... but not sure.

different blocks? alot of newer cars have lighter blocks (aluminum, etc) which dissipate heat more rapidly than the older blocks, therefore dont heat up as fast?

My car gets warmer WAY faster than my truck does, so that doesn't really work. And my truck overheats in the summer so it certainly doesn't have any sort of superior cooling ability.
