First of all, big thanks to Bryan ("Mr. Carb Cleaner"), Bo ("The Ultimate Ratchet Man"), and Greg (king of "I don't stop 'til the fuckin' job's done"). They all busted their asses (and knuckles) to get this thing running great, and I appreciate you guys sacrificing your Sunday, your relationships with your significant others, and in all cases your skin and blood to get done what turned out to be an awesome job8).
So we tear into the motor at like 1:30 yesterday, and we get the intake off, the plates and we're looking at this caramel coated intake and ports. Ughh- nasty shit. Bryan, Bo, Greg, and I all start going to town with the carb cleaner and scrub brushes and get all the shit clean enough to eat off of. Intake ports, intake cover, and IMRC plates are ready to reassemble, so we get it all buttoned back up in like 40 minutes, most of which is spent trying to get the plates lined up right and route the IMRC actuator cables correctly. Bryan and Bo refill the coolant and I go to fire it up, and our eyes bug out of our heads listening to what can only be described as BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM. Fuck. Car says :flip2: .
We're all Holy Shitting it trying to figure out if we left a socket inside the motor. Check and find all tools accounted for. Nothing else to do but- you guessed it- tear it all down AGAIN!!!
:flipoff2: Fuckin' IMRCs. See Avatar for our true feelings on the subject.
So we get it torn down again and find that one of the injector caps (little plastic thingy) fell off into the number 5 intake port and was getting smashed to bits. After Bryan and I drove around all over the west side of town trying to find another injector to steal a cap from while Bo and Greg reassembled everything except the fuel rails, we could find none that would work.
SO, to make a long story even longer, we decided to just put it all back together and hope that the cap would be disintigrated/vaporized by the motor/exhaust. Finally finished it, fired it up, and it sounded normal. THANK GOD I'm not going to need a new short block! Warmed it up, topped off the coolant and left for a test drive.
The results:
WHOOMAH!!!!! :twisted:This boy runs like it never has before. Power increase was quite significant, no more stutter in RPM band and even deceleration under load is smooth as glass (no popping, stuttering, sputtering as before).
I would have been at this for two days with the issues we had if I'd tried to do it on my own. This is a huge improvement in driveability as the car is SO much smoother.
Thanks again guys for busting your asses on a day off to make this happen.8)
