Considering putting a 285/40/18 Toyo Proxe T1-R's on an 8.5 inch rim....what do you guys think of this. I have a 275 on there right now and all seems fine, yes its a different brand but.....let me know what yall think. Anyone currently running a 285 on an 8.5 inch rim?? Thanks

I am only putting 275's on my 9 inch rims so 285 will look pretty out of place if you can even get them on.

If you get it on the rim they will do what I call tent over the edge. That makes for CRAPPY handling and looks bad. Looks ghetto as hell.

I have some Nitto 315/35/17's on my 9 inch Cobra R rims....it hangs over about 1" on either side. I dont drive everyday on them only 1/4 mile runs.

That's too big and pointless to do anyway, the footprint won't be any bigger.

if you want to run wide tires, get wide wheels

if you want to run wide tires, get wide wheels
unless you want the ass end to step out on EVERY curve. Oversized tires have their uses.

Brett had some 285's on the old stock Cobra wheels back in the day. It was pretty goofy lookin', but it DID actually work. But I agree, get wheels, it'll look way better. That or just put 275's back on there, thats not that big of a difference, and frankly the Proxes aren't that sticky anyway, and don't last too long. I was pretty nice to mine (relatively speaking) and they went kinda quick. The stock 180 tread wear 235's lasted longer than these Toyos did.
