my buddy has a camaro ss and he recently had the struts replaced and now when he turns a certain amount it makes a grinding/rubbing/whining noise from the front left and the noise increases as the the RPM's increase. Theres nothing wrong with the steering itself its not hard to turn or sluggish..theres no power steering fluid leaking anywhere or anything...
just wondering if any of you know what could be wrong.

i find it weird that it increases with engine speed. check the inner sidewall for any signs of rubbing. other than that--i'm clueless and thats fucked up

Maybe power steering pump for the increased noise with RPM...Other than that the grinding is odd.........

thanks for the responses...theres no signs of rubbing down there so I guess it has to be the pump.

So I did a search on ls1 tech and found out that the pumps on f-body ls1 are nortoriously bad and leak all over the alternator right under it. which then in turn makes those go bad eventually. Hes already been through one alternator so it all makes since now...I guess it was just leaking alil bit over a long period of time. We put more fluid in it and it stopped making all the noises but now we noticed its leaking alot faster and we can see the fluid on the alternator now.
thought id post that for anybody who was wondering.

Rebuilt pump. I work @ Furrin Auto. 222-6864
The book calls for 3 hours. Our normal rate is 90. I charge 65 To TMCA and give a good parts discount from our normal markup. This pump would be Almost 170 with normal markup.

Well, it is about time for me to lobby my boss for a labor rate increase. He lives in the dark ages. And with that will come a substancial raise. :-|
