The people that live across the street, had their uncle over to drop off some presents for their kids. When he went to back out, he backed into the mailbox. At least he came over and gave Debbie his contact info to replace it. Now who do you call for a simple brick mailbox....

Tony - would you consider a plastic mail box? I'm a bit biased against brick mailboxes in that neighborhood for some reason...

Oh, and make sure whoever puts it up *doesn't* put it right on the road like half of the brick mail boxes over there...they are dangerous!

Reinforce it with metal pipes filled with concrete on the inside, and solid, a few feet into the ground. Make sure that anyone who hits it after this will know it and take the brunt of the damage.

No damage to his truck, since the hitch hit the bricks. He just pushed it over basically, must of hit it and just kept pushing shrug.

I'm going to have to check the covenants of the neighborhood. I know some others have replace the brick mail boxes with single polls, but I want to make sure I'm within code what ever I do.

Oddly enough, it doesnt take as much as you would think to push one of those over. My boss nudged one over not too long ago with his truck. Didnt even leave a scratch on the truck. Pretty much left a pile of rubble for the mailbox. If you havent gotten it fixed by next week, I can check who he went with to replace the one he ran over.

...sure is a different story on a well-built one vs motorcyclist...left a hell of a lot more than a scratch on me!

Mailboxes usually have to be about 36'' inches from the road... Then the height I usually go around hip-height and I'm 5'9

My .02
Build it the same way as the last one. Dont make it so god himself couldnt move it. A guy i know built one that a tank couldnt back over...and it has claimed several front ends, due to its "ol shit" location.
