View Full Version : Andrew and I will be on WCTV tomorrow @ 5:30pm
WCTV came out to the R/C race today for a piece they call "Little Giants". She wanted to interview Andrew and I about the r/c racing etc. She talked to me and Andrew, then videoed Andrew driving the car around the track a bit. She said it will be on WCTV @ 5:30 pm Monday June 4th.

You guys should learn to talk like the Nascar drivers. "The Penske, Nabisco, Home Depot, MAC Tools, R/C racer performed like a champ. I just want to thank my crew chief Tony and Jaws Racing for the great setup. By the way we can dyno tune your car better than anyone else in North Florida"

I'm working on deciding what type of RC I want to get. Been doing alot of research on them.
I had thought about buying an electric.. But Nitro's are just so freaking cool.
I think I've decided on This. Traxxas Nitro Stampede. (http://h1073239.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=TRA4109)

Good report though. I've gotta make my way up to that track and check it out.
I haven't looked at Nitro trucks to much, as I've always had electrics. But if I was going to get one it would be one of these 2:

The Revo seems to be a very popular truck, and the I like the Tamiya one just due to its size :)

Yeah, they are.
The main thing keeping me from Electrics is the run time.. With the Nitro's you just re-fuel and go.
But dont the electrics go out in 10 mins or so?
The batteries I have for the XXX-T now let it run for 14 mins, then the Speed Controller shut down lol. I changed the rotor in the motor to fix the temp issue. It should be able to run for ~15-20 mins with the good battery packs. The packs were not cheap tho, it was $50 for each pack.
Now with the Duratrax Evader he also has with a stock motor in it (still will run 21 mph) it ran for 11 mins (and still had 1/3 charge left) on a $20 battery pack.
If you want longer run times, just grab a few battery packs :) Quieter and can be plenty fast. Course I haven't even tried the new LiPo batteries which are suppose to last way longer and have more punch. We are still using NiMH packs.

I would go with the revo, there will always be more parts for the revo, and its a traxxas, so it has the ez-start!! I was stupid and got a savage instead of t-maxx, the savage is faster and can jump way higher without breaking things but the t-maxx has a better engine/trans, Ive went through like 4 engines in the savage, while my uncle's t-maxx still has his stock .15 thats like 3 years old LOL

The electrics, with the new lipo's and 4200 batteries will run non-stop for 15-20 minutes. Most of the nitros only get about 6-8 minutes per tank load. One of the guy, Paul, is actually racing and winning with an 1/8 scale electric conversion buggy.
The problems I've always had with gas is that fuel and dirt don't mix plus it's hard for beginners to really learn how to run/drive when all they do is chase their vehicles like a dog chasing his tail (i.e. can't keep them running). The truck are either too rich, too lean, glow plug burned out or the reciever pack battery has died. The electrics are as simple as charge the batterys turn on the switch and go.
I've had/have both.
