OK. I want to build a ZL1 replica. A six speed LS1 car with a 427ci stroker. I hear you can do it cheapest by starting with a 6.0 liter truck block. Will LS1 heads bolt up to this without serious modification? Haven't found much information on the web about it. Everyone's using the C5R block which is a little pricey.

LS1 heads will bolt right onto the truck block, but 6.0 heads actually flow as well as LS6 heads. Iron block would for sure be the cheapest route. A bore of 4.060" and a stroke of 4.125" will give you 427ci. Problem is, people been having oil consumption problems with such a large stroke. The most popular way to achieve 427 would be a resleeved LS1/LS6 block with a 4.125" bore and 4", also very expensive. The resleeved block alone is 2k, 2.5k for crank, 600 pistons, 600 rods, 600 for bolts/bearings, plus oil pump, pan, cam, chain. Youre looking at 7000+ for just shortblock parts alone not assembled. SpeedInc and MTI sell assembled iron block 427 shortblocks for 7k. Total engine cost will be in the neighborhood of 10-15K. Tune that bitch, upgrade your tranny and rear and youre looking at 20K assuming you have a car. Not cheap by anymeans.

What he said...Btw bulding a smaller displacement motor would be cheaper, and if you are gonna go iron block (cheaper too), might as well throw like a 200 shot on it...

Yes I see that it will cost me some dollars, so maybe I'll go with what I've been looking at a 396 LT1 Stroker, forged bottom end designed for spray. Without N20 and with some other things that I want to go with it, (driveshaft, traction upgrades and some head work), I think I could have a killer setup for about 7500.00. What do you think?
Might want to factor the cost of a new tranny and clutch in there too =P

He has a new clutch sitting in his garage and his tranny should hold up to that with no problems.;)

That plan sounds better.

Ultimate goal will be to keep LT1 as track/weekend fun car. Buy Z06 for daily driver. How about that plan? Anyone know a good divorce attorney? :D :D

There is a company now that gets rid of the opti problem by using LS1 coil packs.

Yep I know. But you need their module and then you go get your own coil packs. I believe total investment ends up being around 700.00
