I'm torn on the required Insurance deal, will it really raise the price or bring it down? Right now they know we *have* to have the insurance. But if it's not a law they have to now actually compete to get customers.

I'm all for dumping this no-fault bs, but do agree we probably need mandatory insurance, at least liability.... my father got plowed into twice in 6 months by idiots... the second idiot was a mexican driving his bosses' truck without insurance or license...guess who got screwed...

Im either/or on this matter. Some state laws are shuch a waste of paper, while others are great! this one...im not to sure of just yet.

Cons. If I get hit by an uninsured motorist, I may not get my shit fixed...

Pros. I could put a tag on my mud truck, and drive it to the pond, woods, or in the neighborhood without proof of insurance...

"Insurance will not be required for good drivers,"
Does this mean If you dont have the "good driver" on your license, you have to have it? or are they implying if your a good driver and havent been in any wrecks? I never have...gotten a few tickets though that made the "good driver" stamp go Bye bye..

IF this passes... which it might not (due to possible extensions) you WILL be an idiot not to carry some form of libailty insurance.

What makes you think that Mexican would have liability insurance even if the requirement was there? Oh wait, liability IS a requirement now isn't it? At least until Oct. 1. The law only affects people that actually obey them.

LOL, Pat have you lived in Thomasville? The property taxes there are just as hign, and they have income tax. Florida is not going to hell just because we won't be required to carry auto insurance.

It's funny how paranoid some of you are.

Also, insurance now is required by the lien holder, so anyone w/ a newer car that still owes something will still have insurance. Just watch out for the junker cars!!... Like the SLOWROLLA, I WILL PLOW YO AZZ. LOL J/K.

Well since sunset on this law isn't for another few months I know Charlie has some time to call a special session if need be. Although we all know how "well" the last special session went. I know that a lot of the hospitals are now unhappy about this as well because at least with the required PIP the hospitals know they can recover at least $10,000. And as far as the "good driver" thing, I had wondered the same thing, what defines a good driver by state standards? And just because I'm a good driver doesn't mean that 3/4 of these other asshats on the road are, especially around Tally. Hopefully the competition will mean a lower rate from insurance companies but I'm pretty sure you will see a hike in insurance rates before you ever see them come down any from our wonderful legislature allowing this law to fall out.

"Drivers will no longer be required to show proof of insurance when they renew their license plates each year, she said." - this is funny, I renewed my tag this month since it was my brithday, and I did not have to show proof of anything, just paid 47 dollars and left...
