Hey, I was readin' Farmtruc's notes on the LS1 swap. How difficult is it to make the mounts work? Also what do i need to do about the fuel pump and lines?

he shipped me some he made, they are just C shaped blocks and probably require a little more work than im willing to go with. another alternative is to use the S&P Plates, they did a 98 and made plates to slide the motor back a little(~$40), i think they reused v8 mounts in combination. Gonna need a new pump, i got a Walbro 255lph pump, and a Aeromotive AFPR that'll sit around 60-65psi, you need at least 60psi...ls1 isnt like the LT1(that can use a vortec pump/reg) but require 60+psi continuous

yeah I will DEFINITELY fall short of that with my pump haha 15psi MAX... did I mention I hate TBI?

anyway, did you have to lengthen your driveshaft like he did or was it alright?

What about the electronics, how difficult is that? I'm really thinkin' that I definitely not going to be able to do the vast majority of this on my own in ANY way shape or form. It just seems like the LT1 would be a good bit easier, and cheaper. I know it wont make the power that the LS1 will, but wont the LT1 bolt up to my tranny? I'll just have to look at your truck and see how you did some of this stuff, cause I'm still a little concerned about the fuel lines. Do you think I could actually look at the truck sometime so you could explain a little of this to me?

this is the fuel pump that i bought about a year ago when i was first planning my swap. i think it'll work. it doesn't give the psi but it says it'll support 500 hp. i know my engine won't be putting out those numbers. my question is about a regulator. isn't there one mounted on the fuel rail? will this work or do i need to buy a seperate one? what would you reccomend?

i'm still confused on the way i need to run the fuel lines. do i only need to run a fuel line from the cell to the fuel rail? some people have told me different things about a return line. is there one? also, how do i need to setup the vent?

ill try to answer as ive been over this time and time again in my head. im not planning on starting until late Nov/Early Dec, but i read through this stuff a lot over and over again.
Driveshaft: with the plates that S&P sells you'll most likely have to get it shortened a few inches(no big deal) but dont beat on the truck til you could upgrade to maybe a 3.5" aluminum shaft.
Electronics:from those same writeups allen did doesnt seem that hard however i dont have the time or patience to splice up 2 wiring harnesses and make ione big one that actually functions right. id suggest Dynetech motorsports out on Ca, to make you one for around $300(ebay name: ls1pro) i went with a Painless ($508) and brian went with one that was put together by a shop as well. the painless looks to be just that, only missing a few tap ins for gauges.
LT1 think of it this way, you will encounter all the same characteristics in an LT1 swap that you will with an LS1 with the excpetion of the mounts, and a bit cheaper...the LT1 will use your current mounts just fine. it does have its drawbacks, like no A/C, unless you got $1000 for some vette accessories, Zoops, or March pulleys. then theres fuel efficiency, dependability, and just plain power, which the LS1 will get the nod in all 3 categories. and did you not know that your tranny will bolt up to an LS1 just the same?
i wouldnt mind, but my truck is down south at my dads house with the motor/tranny in the bed, brian should have his done soon, and id love to take a look at his in person anyways, i could explain anything then. and fuel lines are where ya got me  im not an expert but ive been told that there isnt that bigga difference in the sizes and theres a possibility they match up fine in the 88-98's, im almost positive GM used the same size in 99+ trucks with LS1 family motors.

thats enough for this post its gettin kinda long.

the fuel pump i got was through a GP and i heard a lot of good things about it...by all means its not the standard you should asume you'd have to get. another bryan got a 155lph Walbro and it sounds/runs fine

Regulator ya got me there too...see i thought/think so too, but i think it doesnt regulate the pressure high enough to support an aftermarket higher flow pump

i bought mine form Jegs for about $130 if you need want me too ill go lok at the part number. on the fuel lines....regardless if its vented or not(i remember you askin a while back, granted adrian knows more about this than me) you can just run returnless style and plug the return vent line back in the cell.

Didn't know about the A/C deal... thats a biggie. I hardly EVER use it but its nice to have on EXTRA hot days sitting in traffic or hot rainy days. I could live without it, but I'd rather not.

about the tranny, I thought it would bolt up, and I had seen someplace that it would. In farmtruc's write up it said, "The starter will not work, nor will your earlier style 4L60E/700R4 transmission work," when talking about using the existing Truck parts, so I was thoroughly confused!

I would feel ALOT better if there was a shop that had experience with the swaps that I could have do it for me. I would love to do it myself, but I don't want to make a "learning experience" out of my only daily driver, and a $3000 LS1. Now I plan on keeping the TBI and buying an old (like '90) S10 and just learning on that. That won't be cheap either, but I can afford to have an S10 sitting outside that doesn't run for a good long time. I can't live without my truck. Also if I kill the S10 its not THAT big of a deal (would be bad, but I'd still have a vehicle) but I don't think that would happen. It would just take a LONG time. I've always wanted a V8 S10 tho.

buy and old s10 and slap an ls1 in there. its really not that hard. but it does cost a good bit of money.i think my total is between 6-7k right now. but thats also because i went with the 6 speed.

hehehe but ive already put all sorts of money in my truck, including alot in the rear end (my eaton and 3.73's) so i really dont want to do a whole lot to the S10. I just want it to drive back and forth to school so my truck doesn't get scratched... but i want it to be cool too. Ain't gonna have no gay 2.8L V6 or something like that = ). I'm also doin the motor in my truck for show as well. There's nothin prettier than an LS1 sittin' between the frame rails where a TBI used to be!!
