98 Z28 A4 Vert - came with 273s. Crusing around tonight I noticed the RPMs seemed a bit high at highway speeds, so I got on tech to research it.

At 60mph I'm ~1950rpm
70mph is ~2250.

If my reading is right that sounds like 342s are in the rear?

You know there's a really easy way to find out exactly what gear is back there. Get up off your ass and jack the rear of the car up and count how many times the driveshaft spins during one revolution of the wheel.

they also came with 3.23's. m6's got the 3.42's IIRC.

That's too hard, Greg.

Im thinking this is the culprit.

Look in the glove box or where-ever the RPO codes are in the LS1 f-bodies and see if theres a GU2 or a GU5. GU2 = 2.73 and GU5 = 3.23.

Another even easier way is if your shifter plate has a selector for 1st gear, its got 3.23's. If you can only pull it down to 2nd gear, it came originally with 2.73's. Since that piece is easily replaced, this way isnt always fool-proof. Also, I know this is true with LT1 f-boides and assuming its the same with the LS1 variety.
