meh, I knew it sucked, this is just one of the most expensive tech schools you can go through. I had over a grand in the bank when I left BMT and blew through it all on gear when I got here.
They say that in the air force the pay is mighty fine,
they give you one hundred dollars and take back ninety-nine.
I laughed when we first sang that running down the street, now I cry.

What you going to be a PX/BX ranger?
$300 for 2 sets of decent boots because the shit they give you at basic can't stand up to more than a week of tacp school
$125 on 2 more sets of summer weight BDU's because the Air Force issued me winter weight, which we aren't allowed to wear
$100 on rucking socks, pt socks, and arch supports
$40 for tacp pt gear we are required to have (but not issued)
$200 on stuff for my room, (when I asked where I could get sheets, I was told to go buy them at the store, theres nothing government in my room besides furniture)
The rest on various field and ruck gear, shoulder straps, map equipment, batteries, 550 line, duct tape, gerber tool, lighters, etc...
We were not issued a single thing. We were however told that we would be required to have x y and z, and that x y and z would cost a lot of money.
It could be worse, they aren't going to allow people to wear the ABU's down here until they come out with a summer weight, and everyone is being issued ABU's at Basic now.
by the way, how are those heated and cooled tents you bastard airforce get.
I wouldn't know, I slept in a hole I dug with an E-tool a couple nights ago because some body didn't have their ruck set-up right.

That sucks, kinda like when I went to basic. They said bring running shoes, shoe polish, toiletries and bath supplies. Well it didn't matter if you had it or not they gave you a 'smart card' with $200 advanced off your first check to re-purchase all that shit again.
They'll find a way to fuck you everytime.
Oh yeah ABU's are fucking sweet.

Yea, we had a $300 "smart card" for all that shit. Id say the majority of it was spent on drycleaning. Basic was honestly retarded, it was just hurry up and wait and then go spend your money on what we tell you too.

I tried rucking in cheap socks the first time...I wont be doing that again.

When do you get a pay raise?
I go to E-3 (I'm E-1 now) when I Graduate, or 20 weeks from when I graduated Basic if I don't graduate in time for whatever reason. It's about a $300 raise.

X what job are you in tech school for?
Yeah don't expect to get paid shit for awhile. Honestly you really don't make much money till you move off base. I make about $2,400 a month after taxes with a dependent.. your BAH (basic allowance for housing) depends on where you live, here at Moody in Valdosta its real cheap.
I put on E-5 the 1st of Dec. and I expect a nice pay raise then the whole military in general is receiving a 3.5% raise 1 Jan.
Deployments are nice I'm leaving for my 4th deployment to the gulf here pretty soon myself. You make pretty good money to my standards. Monthly; Tax free, hostile fire pay $225, hazardous duty pay $100, standard AOR $3.50 a day per dium and family sep which is $250 if you are married or are a single parent. And if you are real smart put all your shit in storage and bank all your BAH and BAS.
Oh yeah A/C equiped tents are the shit. I rather live in a tent than a dorm any day of the week.
