One year for 2.5 million bucks. Sounds perfect to me. In case some of you haven't heard there have been lots of rumors about Jimbo being interviewed for other jobs. I think this new contract is key in keeping Jimbo. I for one want Bowden to stay as long as possible, but I like the pressure this entails.
Florida State and coach Bobby Bowden have agreed to a one-year contract extension worth just under $2.5 million for the 2007-08 season, a source familiar with the deal said Friday afternoon.
Bowden's contract had been set to expire in January. He made about $1.7 million this year.
Bowden's deal also includes the potential for bonuses meant to reward him for success next year and also for career achievements.
It has been stated by Florida State president T.K. Weatherell that Bowden can coach at the school for as long as he desires.Source (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3135271)

yeah the town rag said this morning that FSU is going to name a "coach in waiting". So that when BB retires there will be a quick, smooth transition. They didnt mention Jimbo by name but I'm sure that's who's in line. :D

Ya'll really think Jimbo is next in line over Chuck Amato?

Absolutely. Amato will either have to take another job or settle for Defensive Coordinator when Mickey retires.

Keep him around as long as possible for recruiting. Its not like Bobby really coaches any more anyways.

True I am just tired of hearing he needs to go just having his name associated with FSU gets us all kinds of players that would normally not even look our way. So he still plays a major role in our future just not so much in play calling and and that jazz.

He deifinately deserves a RAISE in PAY!!!!! :sstony:
They are in a tough position right now. Everyone wants to secure a good future for the program, yet Bobby hasn't gone yet. He did the right things in the offseason last year with the hirings/rehirings, and it looks like Trickett and Stroud have the O-line making big improvements, which will translate into points. Now they just need for them to translate into wins.
I think the biggest concern now is how all of those opponent's receivers (VT, BC, FL) were getting behind our corners and making big plays. For two decades we've been able to keep those plays from happening, but this year it happened again and again, especially in our losses. It's a personnel issue, and hopefully having The Chest (Amato) back in the recruiting full time this year will get us some players that can do well what our current DBs are struggling to do at all.
T.K. and Jimbo just came back from another hunting trip together. I think the friendship that has developed between the two, coupled with Bobby's shortened contract, T.K.'s relationship with the football program and the idea of naming a coach in waiting is a very clear indicator of where we're going. Fortunately, it appears to be a good direction. It's still gonna be weird not having Big Bob on the sidelines someday.

Bobby Bowden is FSU's Bear Bryant. I have a feeling the FSU fans are never gonna let that poor man die, either.
