awesome man. spend as much time as possible with it so it is trained to listen to you. keep the commands simple and make sure NO is the first thing it learns. its like a little kid--worries the crap out of you but brings you so much joy. if its destructive while you are out, you HAVE to crate train it.
i thought you were naming it sstony...LOL

LOL. He is not your namesake, but I want you to be his godfather.
We're definitely working on the NO. The biggest thing now is the chewing. He wants to eat EVERYTHING. He's smart, so the housebreaking is going well. If we have any problems, you can come down here and set him straight.

Dude, I wish he was like that. I was playing in the yard the other night with him and I was ready to puke.

So do you know the difference between a truckload of bowling balls and a truckload of cute little puppies.....
Good looking dog, Chad and Alli's Silver Lab is also very cool, and she will absolutely chew your damn hand off if you let her.

I've never heard that exact saying....the punchline is ____________??
He was running around the backyard in the rain last night and as soon as his bear cub sized paws hit the patio he'd just going sliding into the door, furniture, or me. It's ridiculous watching him run. It's like being really stoned watching a cartoon.

He looks kinda short muzzled! The breed must be changing.
With paws that big, you're looking at a good big ol' 80 pounder. Make sure that he knows NOT to jump up unless he's told he can. I had a dog that was at 90 lbs' and didn't know not to jump... grocery days were hell.
I take it you've basic trained dogs before? I've got a great book on labs and field training if it's your fancy.

It's not really that the breed is changing as much as there are really two different types within the breed. There are Bench bred and Field bred - I believe they're also referred to as English and American. The Bench (English) type generally have shorter snouts, heavier bone, and blockier heads. They are considered the "show" version of the Lab. Field (American) typically have longer snouts, narrower heads, longer legs, weigh less, and are higher energy. They are more a working version used for hunting and the like.
My dog is bench bred. His parents are champions and the Grand Sire is a Westminster dog. The breeder expects Maddox to be in the 80-85lb range if he stays pretty fit.
I've been around dogs most of my life, so this isn't unfamiliar territory. Once he has his 3rd shot in a couple weeks, I'm going to do obedience school with him.

And the punchline is.......
"You can't unload the bowling balls with a pitch fork"

OH! Now I remember. My father had a big Chocolate english named Desi. He was tortured by my stepmother's Chihuahua as a puppy, and when he got bigger and bit the dog back, she said that he had to go. My father sold him to some friends that lived in Destin, and he got killed by a car not 2 years afterward. That dog was not a city dog... I wish I could have kept him, but I didn't have the budget no matter which way I cut it...
