It's either rod or main, definately bottom end. I'm guessing rod because oil pressure is normal. Knock is inconsistent, not every revolution, and comes from the center of the engine. More prevalent under the car than above.
I was going to pick up Chad's partial shortblock, but realized that his crank is 24x and I need 58x. I was a moron and forgot/was lazy and didn't get mine from the shop so that's gone.
It's going back to stock, and I'll probably have to keep it as the market SUCKS for them.

from the all the problems with these TSP motors I would not let them put toghter a Huffy bike.. for simular money you can have twice the motor built at Casels and it will stay together, and make more power..

How can I get in touch with this Casels place? I don't know the status of what's left of my build, but I'd be interested in finding out if they can fix it.

Since you just put this in, make sure your flywheel or flexplate and convertor bolts are tight. Your description of the problem sounds like what a friend of mine experienced. Also check your crank pulley. Hopefully its something simple.

Ryan: Yea uhh...I'm looking at that snazzy Z06 there.
Dealer: Sounds good, do you have a trade in?
Ryan: Sure thing, it should be coming in any time now...
-Cut to 5 Mexicans pushing the vette into the dealership-
Ryan: Thanks hombres. Here's 5 bucks each. There ya go, my trade in.
Dealer: Uhh, you're kidding right.
Ryan: Why? YOU said push, pull, drag....

haha...the real funny part is that they would still give him more for the vette, rod knock, mexicans, and all then they would a GTO.

lol... I BRIEFLY considered trying to get the knock to go away, putting it close to stock, then trading for a Z06. The logistics (and morality) made me think otherwise.

Update: Head gasket failure. Both sides. I'm pretty sure it's still fux0r3d because it's knocking, but I suppose it could be a side effect. I don't know HOW IN THE HELL both failed. Coolant is weeping from both sides. I feel like a complete moron, can't do anything right. How do you fuck that up? It's not that hard, I've done it before, it didn't fail then. I had heard "gurgling" the other night after shutting down, probably pressure building into the cooling system from compression. Coolant and oil still look good, ie no mixing has occurred. I thought maybe the issue was coolant getting in the oil then in the bearings, but both look fine overall. Coolant is a bit darker, I'm pretty sure it's carbon though. It's not milky at all, and smells only of coolant.
I need help from somebody smarter than I on this. I'm all about replacing the head gaskets, but with what? Is it worth the shot? It knocks now, no mistake, but that could be piston slap or something from how horrible it's running. It has a hard time keeping idle, so the head gaskets or something is way off. I don't think a spun bearing on it's own would cause it to run as poorly as it does.
Short of finding a steep cliff, ideas?

Dude, swap the L92s for some stock LS7 heads. It sounds as if your heads are warped or your deck is. I don't think it is a rod if the noise is inconsitent. If it was a rod it should knock every revolution.
sstony
04-20-2008, 12:39 PM
i was gonna definitely suggest getting the heads checked NOW! so with your oil looking clean, the coolant leak is external only?? i was thinking maybe some seeped into a cylinder and that caused the rod to bend--if it is rod knock.
this is gonna hurt but i suggest finding a stock LS2 and putting your car back to stock, pull this turd of an engine, fix it on a stand and sell it. trade the car in--by this time i don't even know if a muscle/moddable car would even interest you.
this really sux ryan. call me and you know i'll lend a hand.

I'm ready to put to stock and trade... I have a suitable replacement in mind
heads are questionable at best, I really have no idea. The whole thing is cursed. Cometics are the best I thought, and both sides have failed... nothing different here from any other build.
bore is 4.080, gaskets were ordered for 4.100, at the suggestion of the guy at Cometic. 0.060 thickness, 0.051 stock. Coolant level is still good, so I don't think a cylinder got hydrolocked or anything. I have NO idea what the hell is going on. I need somebody smart to figure this out for me.

Update 2: I'm a 'tard.
Intake rocker # was loose. Falling off loose. Back when this first happened I remembered having a similar incident with the GTO (knock after a hard run), but the knock was every revolution and easy to pinpoint. This knock wasn't easy at all, sounded centered and wasn't every rev.
Head gaskets still suck, but that's another situation entirely.

Before you take the heads off please try this. First here is my experiance with cometic head gaskets, my friend Tracy had the engine for his s-10 built by a reptuable race engine shop that builds engines for everthing from nascar to indy car engines. They used cometic gaskets on it, we put the thing in and run it a couple of days and the gaskets started leaking just like you are describing, he called them and was not happy of course, the guy laughed and said that was a trait of those gaskets and to put in some type of moroso cermanic stop leak and that would take care of it. I thought this was crazy for whay he put in this engine and i didn't think it would work. It did!!! It has been about a year now and it has never leaked another drop, and this thing has been subjected to serious abuse. I am sure you will think this is silly but i saw it work and i thought it was silly since this is the most expensive head gasket around and you need stop leak??? But you could see the water drip out from under the head. Hey it's about a 10 dollar fix try it.

I agree with the above.. I remember when he had that problem and I remember saying that was a stupid fix.
But it worked and has held up under extreme abuse. That little engine has NOT had an easy life :p

I'll find that stop leak and try that, I'm all about never pulling those heads again.
