Can I run an e-cam with the stock E7 springs and pushrods?

yes for pushrods, no for valvesprings. you will get valve float at high rpms. i just ordered crane cams 44308-1 springs for mine since i broke the others i had. they fit stock heads and are a little more stiff. they work with almost all ford cams.

I think the stock springs will work, but it will be borderline on reliable. Pushrods are fine. If the engine has good oil pressure and can supply the springs with adequate oil to cool them, then they should last for awhile @ .498 lift. Stock HO cam is .444 lift, so that is not too far off.

Thats what I was thinking. Its not really a high lift cam by any means. But I did read about the valve float. I dont think Im going to bother. I just happen to have the cam sitting here along with an intake and heads :headbang:

trust me i would get new springs. there is more lift than you might think

T, are you sure you really wanna be messing with valve springs now around this bunch of lucky bastards?

He needs to start scheduling me all the days I want off at work otherwise I might just have to go over to his place and do a little "valvetrain work"

1.7's tend to push the valves down at an angle. this can cause stress on the springs, so i am gettin 1.6's :D i should be gettin my new spring and retainer kit today too. woohoo

Hmm. First time I've heard that about the 1.7s. I ran an e-cam and 1-7s for 30k miles on my old 90 and never had a problem.

It is harder on the valve guides.

Is that just on the E7 heads? I was running that combo on gt-40 heads.

with a e-cam 1.7s will give you about 30 more lift 1.6s about 22, 1.7s are not harmful to any engine it just adds more lift and it gets higher as your lift on the cam gets higher.a e-cam will work fine on your e-7s but with 1.7s you will need duel springs, its pointless to run a e-cam without roller rockers and 1.7s are my fav i have a set of cranes on my 331 with afr's i ran those same roller rockers on my gt40 irons, with 1.6s you will see not much of a difference on that smmall of a cam ,the f-cam is alot better cam,e7's are a waste of money to build up,try and find a set of gt40p or a set of gt40 cobra heads at least,i have a set of ported and polished gt40 cobra heads with good racing springs that will hold up to a 566 lift cam,and i garantee with these gt-40 heads and a f-cam will give 30 hp more over the e7's and e-cam,600$ shipped

I was just curious because I have an e-cam sitting here (along with ported edel heads and cobra intake). I think I would rather sell the E-cam and something a little more radical.
