So I have this miniature poodle that I bought my wife last christmas as part of our dog for wheels agreement :D. I never thought I would really care much for her, but I am not afraid to admit that she is one of the coolest dogs ever. Her name is Maggie and she's got the personality of a terrier, and she doesn't look like a gay poodle either.

I absolutely love her and am very concerned with her behavior. She seems to eat EVERYTHING that is outside on the floor. She eats rocks, leaves, the little shit that falls of trees, sticks, EVERYTHING. We've trying to get her to stop because I'm afraid she may choke on something or get really sick. Nothing has happened yet and she just turned 1 yr old. Is this normal for young dogs to eat EVERYTHING? I've had a couple of dogs before and remember them tearing and biting into stuff but never swallowing random crap. Any tips of how to get her to stop or is this just an age thing? Thanks!

It's pretty normal for small hyper dogs to eat anything and everything. I got my two dogs to stop by watching them and getting onto them for a few weeks when i'd let them out after work.

Never seen my dogs eat a rock, almost anything else but never a rock.

I know dogs eat plants when there stomachs are bothering them so watch out for that.

Although it never stopped my lab, mix up some water and make is 'spicy'. Somthing that they won't like. Spray it around the area she likes to pick things up. Oncy she bites something that is laced, she will start to learn not to do that again.

I'm in the same boat Kass! My Spaniel just turned 1 year and she is starting to eat anything that is not nailed down. Watch out for cigarette butts. I have heard those can kill a dog if they are ingested.

We have seen the same insane behavior from the Blonde's Tea Cup. So far no major crisis, although it has gotten expensive...she mauled Ms. T's $600 glasses :(

If you break the code on training one of these demon possessed miniatures please post up:cry:

I have a poodle/lossa apso mixed dog and he eats everything. He ate some sort of clothing about a month ago and shit it out. Their like lil garbage disposals man. Just keep em away from hazardous materials.

its very normal behavior for dogs, just get on to her when she dose it give her the stern 'NO' and after a few days/weeks (depending on how bright your dog is) they will start to get the picture. and always reward them for doing somthing good

you can't spray your whole yard with that shit though...

i work at a vet and we do a lot of behavioral consults. the #1 answer for most problems has been, take your dog for walks. not like around the block, but for 45 min to an hour, as often as you can. i know it's not very practical, but it is whats recommended.
my g/f's dog has seperation anxiety, when we leave, he chews up our shit. the dr. just tells us to walk him more... builds their confidence, tires them out, etc. although there are do's and don'ts on "how to walk" according to Ceasar. we don't walk him, just spank him when we come home to chewed stuff.

some dogs never learn though.

you are about out of the "puppy stage" now and it might just get better. good luck man.

i always hear of dogs doing this and are ok. but i've also heard of dogs that eat sticks which get stuck in there intestines and block everything from passing through. the dog will continue to try to eat and drink but not be able to hold anything down. my buddy's dog had surgery due to this where they attempted to completely remove the track of intestines that had the blockage. the surgery was successful but the dog never made it out of recovery alive. so be very careful with this and try to break her of it.

I had a friend with a poodle, though it was a regular sized one, and it ate everything too even chocolate and it survived just fine. I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as there isn't anything harmful in your back yard. Also... arent poodles supposed to be smart?

That's what I thought :) But she is very smart. When we eat now she plans her attack like a sniper :secret: and then as soon as the opportunity comes she lunges when we're not looking and swallow anything she can off the plates.
