If you're old enough to die at 18, then you're old enough to have a beer.

i actually wrote a paper on this. There is a great argument both ways on this subject and it makes for great debate

My last speech in fundamental speech was on lowering the drinking age to 18.

Seriously, you can have a hunting permit at 12 and operate a firearm, but you can't be trusted with a beer at 20?

I was 18 once, a long time ago, I wouldn't trust me with a beer when I look back.

Just like some people are not responsible with firearms at 18 some will also not be responsible with alcohol at 18. I personally think if you are old enough to serve in the military than you should be able to drink whatever the fuck you want.

I thought that several years ago I had heard that a military ID allowed those 18 or older to purchase and consume alcohol?

Or was I just drinking when I thought I heard that?

I have different opinions on this. I think if you are in the military you should be able to drink. As for the rest of the 18-20 year olds I'm not sure. When some 18 year old says he should be able to drink because hes old enough to serve but he has no intentions of ever serving, I get a little pissed and think he needs to shut the fuck up.

It should be 15 and no big deal. problem with this country is "we" try to save everyone from themselves. What we really need is more personal responsibility rather that government telling us what's good for us.

I think if your in the military and your 17 or 18 you can drink. If your a civilian and your under the age of 21 you can not drink.

what makes an 18 year old in the military different then one not, in a drinking sense?

If you are old enough to die for your country, you are old enough to die in a dui in your country!

Seriously though, think bad really hard... how many people did you know that started drinking at 18,19,20...or earlier?

There isn't, but if you are going to use the ability to serve as your reason to drink, then how about actually serving and not just talking big.

As a person who frequently deals with individuals 18-20 lowering the drinking age is a terrible idea. Kids right out of high school barely have the ability to make decisions requiring nothing more than a little common since; add alcohol and your asking for trouble. I think letting them get a little sober life experience in them, away from mommy and daddy, is a great idea before we start allowing them to legally purchase alcohol. I believe it’s a privilege not a right, and at eighteen you haven’t earned the privilege.

no way, they should be allowed to drink at home first so mommy and daddy can teach them responsibility first with it before they are out on their own learning it themselves.

in other countries that don't even have a drinking age, theres not as big of a problem because drinkings not a form of rebellion.

Teaching responsibility to your children in your own home is a great idea and wonderful life plan...however it rarely happens. If kids were learning life lessons and good values from their parents in a controlled environment, i.e. home, this city/ town/ country wouldn’t be over run with arrogant little shits who know everything. 21 is still my vote.

I dont buy this whole the age you start and laws crap myself. Italy has no drinking law, however, you have to be 16 to legally be served or to purchase it. But you can drink it at any age.

And Italy has a teenage drinking problem from everything I have ever read in the news. A growing one at that of teens binge drinking. So I dont think the our laws are causing the problems. It is families today. You have to teach your children to respect drinking and how to enjoy it, not consume until you pass out.

I think we need to educate people and parents, not force laws and limits. but that is just me.

oh, forgot to add, bing drink is NOT a form of rebellion, most surveys I have seen say the teens dont know why they do it, or they do bc everyone else does. lol...

that drinking age hasn't stopped anyone I know. If they want to drink, they can.

thats what i'm saying. if somebodys going to drink, they can do it when they're 14 or 15. its not like the laws are changing anything, it just makes people want to break them.

The laws will make it easier for the young'uns to get a drink. If you want to make people responsible for themselves the 16 it is (said 15 before oops). If you want the state to run your life then make it 25 or 30. sheesh!:-|

As it is right now if a 18 year old fresh outa basic went to Germany, Turkey and a some other places as their first duty station that'd be able to drink. Or if they were deployed to Qatar, UAE or Kyrgyzstan (2 or 3 beer limit)... So why not everyone?

And then you have that saying... if your man enough to die for your country your man enough to have a beer.

I beleive Minnasota actually has a law saying that anyone serving in the military can buy beer or some shit...
