If you liked Toby Keith because you thought he was patriotic and wrapped his ass in the flag.. think again.

LOS ANGELES - Barack Obama is getting praise from a big, patriotic country star.

Toby Keith, perhaps best known to non-country music audiences for his post-Sept. 11 song "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue," says he is a Democrat, and was impressed by the senator from Illinois.

Keith has said in the past that the 2002 song - which courted controversy for its call for vengeance and lines aimed at the Taliban like "we lit up your world like the Fourth of July" - was more patriotic than pro-war.

Asked while promoting his new movie "Beer For My Horses" about the role of patriotism in the current presidential election, Keith replied: "There's a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up.

"So I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things.

"So as far as leadership and patriotism goes, I think it's really important that those things have to take place. And I think he's the best Democratic candidate we've had since Bill Clinton. And that's coming from a Democrat."

that link just brings up the site map, so I am guessing it is bad also or you have to be a member.

from what you posted I am not sure how anything in their makes him seem unpatriotic.

It struck a big nerve at Military.com, which I'm a member of, I think it was the quote that some people believe there is a war on terrorism (meaning military) and his backing of Obama.

I dont think he meant military.

he said "There's a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up."

that statement is pretty vague imo. But he was responding to a question about the election and the "role of patriotism in the current presidential election" which I would assume meant he was talking about voters in general.

if anything he meant republicans...errr... :)

Why do people care what celebrities think? They're no better qualified to make judgements than the common person on the street. The media spins everything. I like Toby Keith's music, but what he thinks about the election doesn't mean jack to me. He has a right to his opinion just like everyone else.
