I drove to crestview and back this weekend, and I just finished washing every lovebug between here and there off. I also realized Tallahassee water is very harsh since no matter how hard i tried i couldn't keep water spots from forming!!! Anyone an er.... expert on the perfect car wash? I've heard mixing jet dry in one of those little miracle grow watering thingys helps.

wash your car in a cool place not in direct sunlight.

Use Mr. Cleans filter car wash thingy and use it in the shade or early/late in the day.

I hear lovebugs are not native to south georgia... how did they get here?

Or by you a P.O.S beater and don't bother washing it.

Boat :)

seriously, they are native to Central America and from what I understand just hitched a ride one day to some port up here and their vacation turned in to a permanent stay!

Folklore
Urban legend holds that lovebugs are synthetic — the result of a University of Florida genetics experiment gone wrong[3]. Speculation about the lovebug abounds. This is partly due to the fact that this insect is an unseen beneficial (lives and feeds in the thatch of grasses) for most of the year. As a result, most scientists are not as concerned with the details of this insect's life cycle, biology and other facets of its existence as they are with more serious pests. For example, while various fungi are known or suspected of being natural controls for this species,[1] time and funding do not allow the for more study, except as a side interest.

Research of L. L. Buschman showed that migration explained the introduction of the lovebug into Florida, contrary to the urban myth that the University of Florida imported them to help control the mosquito population.[4]

yes I like the UF explination... yet another reason to irrationally hate them! But this mr clean stuff i suppose ill give it a shot, but as for filters I had one in TX and doesn't help unless it produces pure de-ionized water. But a DI machine cost like $600 at costco.

before lovebug season always put a good coat of wax on the front of your car and windshield and make sure to get them off once or twice a week. if you don't you will be sorry.

i haven't tried this but some know it all told me if the bugs are somewhat fresh, wet the car well and wipe drier sheets on it--drier sheets like washer and drier--drier sheets...snuggles and shit

if they are fresh, they come off fairly easy with soap and water. it's when the have been on there for a week or so when they are a bitch. and they WILL eat your paint.

Your right Tony, its the cloth dryer sheets, they work the best, without damaging your paint.

Werd! They work like a charm no matter how long those things have been on there.

I took my car to super suds on sunday (yeah i know, short on time and money tho) and they naturally did a SH*T job removing the bugs. Oh well at least they put wax over the bug guts for me.

Rain X will help keep them from sticking to the windshield. The dryer sheet thing is the best I have found for the body.

I just try to get them off asap. They have special soaps meant to target bug guts and a rougher sponge that gets them off pretty quick without damaging paint. Haven't tried the dryer sheet thing tho. Looks like everyone here is pretty much on the same track.

So the drier sheets to get them off after splatter or to prevent them from sticking to the car?

I also like the UF explanation better then the real one on snopes. I'm gonna continue to push that rumor anyway..............
