i really dont think im gonna justify getting longtubes so im thinking of redoing everything back from my current headers, and if i do get longtubes ill need to do it anyways

heres my plans

for both plans:
-cut ballflanges off mac headers, extend 3" collectors, add 3" 3 bolt flanges

Plan1: Single
-custom 3" ypipe
-dual cutouts in the ypipe
-flowmaster y collector
-3.5" piping
-dynomax ultraflow welded 3.5" muffler under passenger compartment
-turndown before rear axle

Plan2: Dual
-2.5" piping
-xpipe
-single chamber flowmaster muffler/magnapack mufflers (either, probably flows though)
- dumps before axle

both will cost around the same

Plan1 would be easier to do than plan2 because i cant get plan2 until i get the torque arm i want and i would have to work around it. Plan1 would be lighter than plan two. Plan1 would sound meaner, not necessarily better than plan2.

i looking for opinions on this. which would sound better, which would make more power, any ideas at all

no that i think about, i probably wouldnt use cutouts in plan1 because the system should flow more than enough as is

the reason i am thinking about this, one i want a different sound, two the bends and collectors in my exhuast dont flow well, and the ball flanges in my headers dont flow well either

i'm in the same boat basically with how to run mine. its either going to be a custom 3" y pipe into a single 3" pipe with a 3 chambered flowmaster with a turndown before the axle, or true 2.5" duals with dual 3 chambered flows. which do you think would sound better? i want something fairly quiet when im riding around but with a good deep sound at WOT.

advantages: single piping would probably be a little cheaper due to the fact i would only need 1 cat and 1 muffler. also, i would be able to mount an air tank where my gas tank used to be, thus making the bed of the truck look cleaner.

dual piping would be easier to run because i wouldnt have to worry about crossing over a 3" pipe. it would be more expensive though with having to buy 2 mufflers and 2 cats, plus i would have to put my air tank in the bed of the truck.

sorry to hijack your thread ryan. i've been wanting to ask this for a while but i kept forgetting. if the mods want to split this its fine by me. i just want some opinions.

ryan, why not magnaflow? dont like em?i ve read they flow really well.

Brian, can you run full exhaust with the bags? ive been told my drop won't allow exhaust after the rear axle

ive got dynomax and flowmaster loyalties. love the way they sound and perform

im actually leaning towards the first one big time, but using a 3.5" deltaforce flowmaster (small case two chamber)

Most power would be the 2.5 duals. 2 2.5" pipes out flow a single 3" pipe. A guy in FFW tried to run a single 4" pipe vs 2 2.5"s pipes. And he did better with the 2.5" pipes.

But as you said, the true duals will have to wait for the tq-arm. It comes down to a matter of how soon you want to do this.

Imho, I'd get LTs and duals. Since you want the most power.

i would do a single 3.5" or 4" pipe

cost is a major thing here too, so i have to keep that in mind

no. i have to have a turndown in front of the rear axle, thats why i want a pretty quiet muffler for when i'm cruising. it gets pretty loud in the cab sometimes.

What are your plans for the motor? That has alot to do with what exhaust is going to be best for you.

Personally, i'm a big fan of the K.I.S.S. method. If you want true duals, do it with an X, pick your favorite muffler (although, I don't recommend Flowmasters) and have turn downs before the axle, but remember, you are sacrificing clearance big time and it'll have a tendancy to resonate in the car at certain speeds. If that's cool, I have a contact down in Tampa that could set you up with duals for ~$250 (don't quote me on that).

My current setup is the Grotyohann long tubes with a 3" OR Y-pipe feeding into a Hooker Aero-chamber catback and some Heddman tips that look close to stock, but bigger, for that stealth look 8) . I have a cutout just before the back axle but I haven't found that it helps me any (my best runs are with it capped).

If you can swing it, long tubes are the best bet for power and they have a 'different' sound to them that I really like. The biggest difference in an exhaust system is going to be the headers because that is where you experience the highest exhaust pressures and pulse scavenging. From there back is more just keeping it flowing well and getting the sound you want.

Hope this helps...

Marty

?????? i run a 1and 7/8 lt with a x pipe and single chambers and i gained 14 foot pounds of torque with the x pipe and flomasters over open header, dyno numbers have prooven that duel exhaust on the f-bodys loses power i would put a bigger y-pipe on and flomasters then your done.my good friend has slp headers and 3 inch y pipe 3 inch pipe to his flomaster with stock tips on a blown 383 lt1 and it sounds badass and making 600 hp i think his flomaster is a 2 chamber too but its almost as loud as mine are

as the car sits its right around 400-415 rwhp. within the next 8 months it should be at around 450 rwhp

final goals would be 500 NA rwhp and possibly a 200 direct port for fun.

i change exhuast systems often, im on my third right now. i want something that will support up to 450 rwhp and not hinder anything

im think for weight, cost, and sound im gonna go with plan one with a deltaforce (love flowmaster sound and they race mufflers flow great)

with that set up, I would suggest getting a nice quality set of TUNED Long tubes. The cat back shouldnt matter as much as long as it is free flowing and non restritive muffler. a dual chamber should be fine.
