Got my Xbox 360 yesterday, played it twice probably an hour total. The thing locks up so I reset it. The lower right red light is flashing along with a message E79 contact customer support. What the hell kind of crap are they selling. Trying to think of a happy place before I call them.

Did you buy it new or used? If new get them to swap it out for another one. If used, sounds like you got one with a bad hard drive or a problem with the hard drive. Try removing the hard drive and putting it back on to make sure it is fully seated. If that does not fix the issue, try playing without the hard drive for a bit and see if it gives you any problems. If it runs without the hard drive then that means that the HD is defective or corrupt. Did this happen after downloading an update or something?
Sorry about your luck Matt.

That sucks man I'm about to get one. I hear that the Elite is less prone to breaking though?

I'm probably going to jinx it right here, but mine is now a year old and no problems yet. Good news is Microsoft seems to be backing up their products pretty well after they break so this is no reason to go out and buy a PrettyShitty3.

Sorry about your luck, my buddy has two broken ones sitting at his house.
I got mine from SStony and who knows how old it is and works fine. One thing I recommend for the 360 is the intercooler for it or some sort of cooling fan. Helps out a lot.
RRoD many times can be fixed by disconnecting the internal cooling and running the machine for a few seconds. It seems many of the rrod's are actually caused by the really crapping process they picked for soldering the boards... ending up with cold joints. Running without a fan temporarily lets it overheat quickly and remelt the joints correctly.

Brand new from Best Buy. I tried playing without the drive and the same error popped up. This morning I turned it on and it told me to clean the disk because it was unreadable. The disk is brand new without a scratch. I tried taking it out and putting back in and then it threw me the same error. Im just gonna try to get Best Buy to exchange it before contacting XBOX.

Man, that is fucked up. Take it back and MAKE them exchange it. There is no way you should be having those problems with a new system. Must have got a dud.

if it does break and microsoft finds out you were using an intercooler your warranty is immediately voided...so if it ever does break just don't tell them you were using one

Umm don't they make the intercooler for it??

Never heard that, had one die on me a while back. They never asked about it having the intercooler on it. Must be something new.
Heres the one I have:

Course mine had to be replaced due to a bad CD drive, not the rrod.
