So this guy has a Corvette and sent it to a shop called Cartek to get it rebuilt. He states his expectations for the motor are to be from 580rwhp ~ 600rwhp and I forgot the torque he stated, but yea. Apparently Cartek put cheap ass parts in and didn't do the machine work he paid for and still charged him! Outta the shop, his car only made 515rwhp or so. Anyways, he does a great job defending his case in these vids:

Is it just me but 26k for jut 580rwhp just seems waaay off. I mean, I understand the mods and reinforcing everything, but that just seems alot for 580....did I miss something?

Anyways, Cartek fucked up big time...interesting to see what happens to them. Has this been posted on ls1tech?

That's really interesting, seeing as Cartek is known quite well for 10 sec heads/cammed f-bodies, on the stock bottom-end, and that are still daily driven...

That Callies crank has to be close to $2k alone and stage 4(?) heads are probably pricey as well.....but yeah $26k is a bit much for that power level.

Check out Cartek's response though:

Evidentally that was a completely new motor that was put in that vette, and he broke it at the track.

I watched the video, and the guy was talking about the engine having pistions the same exact diameter of the bore..which last I checked there had to be some form of clearance between the piston and the cylinder wall...so it could be a case of the customer having more money than brains. *shrugs*

Hmmm. Seems to me yes that guy is an idiot. But also did the shop tell him what they were installing in the 2nd engine? If it were me I would tell him before hand what hes going to get the second time around just because what happened, can happen. Also I dont know if its fair that if you pay for a warranty, and the company gets bought out, that the warranty is void. Even though they honored the so-called warranty. But either way thats a lot of money wasted.

Should have gone with a NA 383 - $12k from Wheeler Powersports in JVille and it made 720hp on the engine dyno @ 7200 rpm (well worth 600 RWHP). Still +1 on the more money than brains...just ALOT more money than brains IMO.

I can see both sides of this one. It seems that basically the guy was ass out because the company did change, but they attempted to honor the warranty with another motor. If they were going to honor the warranty IMO they should have honored it with the parts the customer paid for. If they were not going to do that they should have had it in writing that they were changing the parts and had the customer sign that. They did not cover their ass enough. That is Carteks bad.

The dude does sound like a typical yankee douchbag, no understanding what so ever. When you are racing things break. Normal WEAR (something that bothered me was the mispelling on the invoice) means just that whether its off road parts or not. IF something breaks that is not normal wear. The Douch not using synthetic oil was a totally stupid move on his part especially since, if I am not mistaken, those engine REQUIRE it. IMO That is instant warranty void.

The crankshaft being bent bothers me, no one knows when it bent or how. That is a HUGE factor in what happened to this engine, and from what I can tell the last engine too. That is something that should have been checked. Especially since the engine threw a rod.

I feel that Cartek was wrong saying his warranty was void because someone else tweaked the tune. SO WHAT, it was done by an obviously reputable shop in the area.

Damn I am so on the fence about this one.. Cartek did try to make it right to some degree, but then again they shouldn't have done it because of the circumstances surrounding the whole motor blowing in the first place.

Funny enough, this is not the first time I've read/heard of someone paying good money for a serious build, and when it failed, the owner for some reason was running dino instead of full synthetic. All that money for a build, and then skimping $20-40 on an oil change is dumbfounding.

Looks like the owner is a real douchebag, but FWIW i've seen a vette that cartek did a turbo setup on here in PC. The owner shipped it from NJ to have it fixed after some pretty shitty looking fabrication. Its been a while since i saw it, but something that really stuck in my mind was aluminum foil wrapped around a wiring harness that was too close to the turbo.

"Just to let everyone know, the H beam rods and Callie crank WERE in there, Lucky for them" lol what a tool.

This doesn't go for every wealthy person, but from what I have seen, most people with money are just never happy. And to those people I say if you don't like what you have paid someone else to do for you then do it yourself, if the work was faulty would be more understandable but it wasn't. Obviously he is in the wrong and has to big of an ego to admit it.

crazy. Although I do not see how if I own a company with someone, 50/50... and I buy him out so it is just me, that suddenly it is a new company that does not need to honor any pass agreements. That is bs. If the old company owed money to the bank, I bet the bank would not take the argument from them...lol.

otherwise the guy does seem like an idiot.

I doubt we'll ever know the real full story, but after hearing both sides, I'm siding with Cartek more or less. Even if they planned to honor the warranty, he voided it by being a complete retard. The Z06 has an oil cooler and he manages to get temps over 290 still? What a tool.

Not sure who the owner is, it was at Stumps shop when he bought my old crank about 8 months ago.

if you actually measure a piston that is made for a .030 or whatever size over bore, its usually .004-.008 smaller than what the bore is so that you will have the piston to wall clearance required by the manufacturer. So if you order pistons for a 4.130 bore, the bore will be 4.130 while the pistons are about 4.125.
