My son bought an 89 RS Camaro from a board member a few weeks ago.
Most of you will reconize the car but if all goes well it will be totally different soon.
The car had a V-6 with headers, suspension mods and a 4" cowl hood.
The car wasn't running when he got it, we did get it running but decided to go old school with a carbed 350.
Sold the motor, headers and the cowl hood to cover the price of the car.
Starting at zero dollars we begin the engine build. I have a stock bore 350 2-bolt main block and all the componets. We are going with a stock rebuild and should be assembling the engine this weekend. During the build on my Monte Carlo i switched to a serpentine setup so i have all the leftovers from my car to use on this. Hopefully we will stay around $400 for the engine.
Still need to find a working 700R4 tranny since the V-6 one won't bolt up to the V-8.

Plans include V-8 swap, IROC hood, remove rear wing and replace with stock style spoiler, Black paint & return the rims to polished aluminum.

Good to see the car is in good hands, you're doing what I was thinking of doing if I kept the car. Just a stocker 350, nothing special?

Those rims are the stock RS wheels, they were white when I got the car and peeling.

Other than needing a different trans everything is falling into place.
Going to soda blast the rims and most likely polish the edges and paint the centers black to match the car.

Ive got a decently built '93 700R4 with a TCI SuperStreetFighter 3500 stall converter for sale. $2,000 and its yours. It comes with a '93 LT1 and almost all of the rest of the car too.

Went to C.R.E. (Compitition Racing Engines) on S. Monroe today.
I know they have a bad rep but that was from the previous owner. Neal has took it back over and has given me great service at a fair price twice in the last 2 months.

I took the block i had to get it hot tanked and the cam bearings and freeze plugs installed. Neal also had a stock size polished crank i was going to buy for $125.
I get there with the block just to find out its worn .020. So now it needs to be bored but then new pistons are required.
After a long discussion and me telling him we have to do this on a tight budget he leads me into the back shop where he has a stock bore 2 bolt main 880 block with new cam bearings and freeze plugs. He prepped the block for a customer and he never picked it up or paid for the work. I gave him my old block and $290 for the block and the crank. That would have been about the same price as having my block done,
Added another $70 for the rings, rod and main bearings. Stopped and picked up a rebuild gasket kit for $100.
$460 and 2 hours later i have everything here ready to build a motor.

Neil is a good guy - he built a couple motors for our race Vette. His home shop is awesome.

Yeah the shop at his house is pretty sweet. Must be nice to have that kind of a garage at your house and of course with the vettes in it too.

Been a couple weeks since we were able to get anything done but we got a few hours in this weekend.
Got the bottom end put together, timing chain on and the heads cleaned up and sitting in place. On his next day off we should finish getting everything buttoned up.
We still need to get a set of V-8 motor mounts before we can install everything.
