Sure it will. He is cutting 2.1's and 2.2 60'. If he gets a rear and slicks and can cut a 1.7 like Mike did, thats .8 at the far end of the track, if not more;)

In ur T/A....man that is so not fair! Damn 02's. I have all that and still am 9/10's slower when pulling 2.0's

He was cutting 1.8's and 1.9's. His car is also a M6 with 3.42's which help a lot too. Chris, what gears are you running?

not that easy buddy. Slicks don't take almost a full second off of a near stock car. It'd give him .4-.5 off his ET, at best.

Ok, I have the slicks. Your rearend will hold up fine, your not driving a LS1. :)

When ever you want to try them :)

for every .1 you take off the 60' time, it's .2 off the 1/4. all i have to do is hit a 1.7-1.8 60', and i've got a 12.9 baby!!!!

Matt, just cuz you can't drive doesn't mean others can't :D

its more like 1.5 for every .1 off the sixty, generally about .3 off the sixty is about .5 off the quarter

Jericho574

I think weather is a contributing factor as well. Last time i went to g-ville i pulled a 13.4 with a 2.1 60 and this time was a 13.3 with a 2.0.

I think with the slick thing is all about the driver. Look at Cosby for example. Mid 11s with bolts on a 4V, maybe 300-320 RWHP.

I'd bet with the weather like it is I could pull high 12's.

--I was running 13.5's w/1.9 60's on my nittos and 13.1's on slicks w/1.7 60'. 2 tenths in the 60' netted me 4 tenths in the quarter.

im positive with gears and slicks you can dip into the 12's np.just slicks i think your only looking at 6 tenths

of course my example was an extreme one, but most guys dont get near the potential of what there car can run when only going to the track a few times a year.

ok, if you really think that, i'll put 50 bucks on it. Take up tony's offer, and let's see you prove your theory. 8)

you're forgetting there comes a point of deminishing returns. When my friend Kurgan was stuck in the 13.0-13.1's....he was still running 13.3-13.4's on street tires.

8/10th's of a second on a tire change for a mostly stock car doesn't happen.

Bryan02TA
11-23-2003, 02:45 PM
i'm not saying i would dip into the 12's, i'm just saying i would be close. I guarantee i'd shave more than .4 off my 1/4 though! Mike shaved off .2 on his 60' and what do you know he shaved .4 off his 1/4! It's not that hard to rev the motor up and pop the damn clutch. I'm not slapping slicks on this thing until i get a rear either, so don't tempt me to! :D

I guess only time will tell.

97MattGT
11-23-2003, 03:26 PM
this whole thing about needing a rear before using slicks is a bit too much.

The stock rear can handle using slicks. It will break eventually, yes....but you can make 20-25 passes on it easily without worrying.

I've made about 16 passes on my car. But yes, i'm now saving for a rear.

Bryan02TA
11-23-2003, 03:51 PM
i just don't trust it. I can't afford to break the rear and then have to get a new one in order to drive it. I'm already in the process of finding some slicks already on some rims if Bo can hook me up!! :D

I didn't know the rims were so cheap. $35 each for Bart rims.....less than that for used ones!

brandboZ28

Yea, as soon as he figures out what he wants for them, Ill let ya know:D

97MattGT
11-23-2003, 04:22 PM
are bart wheels those heavy steel wheels?

that's another big reason as to how people break stock axles. Heavy rotating mass.

My prostar/et drag combo feels like it's half the weight of a stock rim/tire combo. Less rotating mass means less stress on the rear-end. Keep that in mind. ;)

brandboZ28
11-23-2003, 04:34 PM
The Bart rims arent as light as a prostar or anything like that but with the slick, they are a good bit lighter than a stock wheel and tire.

Bryan02TA
11-23-2003, 04:56 PM
i think they are 20 lbs a piece

I dont know about that, not all cars of the same breed are created equal. Bone stock I ran 14.1 with 2.0 60's (most LS1's are a lot quick than 14.1 stock) and now 13.3's whereas Alan runs 12.4's with my same mods

that is very true, look at Tony's GT! He is a great driver though too. Slicks take the learning curve away from launching on street tires
