Sitting at a red light in the turn lane to turn left. All of the sudden some lunatic decides to go from the middle lane into the intersection and make the left hand turn with oncoming traffic still having a green light...Name that person

Was that your trans am at the light holding up traffic pretty boy...
you know a red left turn arrow means you can go if there is no one coming the other way... but you seemed so happy to wait for the light, and well, I wasnt :) so I passed you and turned...
that was mild... I cant believe you would even consider posting such a minor traffic infringement...
someday I will have to take you for a spin... :headbang:

Close but no cigar...a red arrow on a RIGHT turn means you can go if no one is coming...a right on left is a no no because of the whole oncoming traffic thing. I thought the same thing as you until wednesday when the "Traffic Doctor" spoke in one of my classes. We asked him all sorts of things regarding traffic rules.

You can turn RIGHT on a red arrow unless there is a "no turn on red" sign however the same does not hold true for left hand turns. Because the lane itself was a turn lane there is no red light persay but only a red arrow.
Basically, assuming there are no signs saying otherwise you can turn keeping in mind one key rule: The turn cannot cross any lanes.
Going from the furthest right to the furthest right is fine but going left would cross other lanes so thats not legal.

Ok, now how about turning left on a red light to go onto a one way street? Since it's one way, does it act like a normal right turn?

It would have to be a one way on the street u r on and that u r turning into or else you would be crossing over someones lane.

i for one think it's a bit disturbing that we're a car club, a high performance car club at that...and people don't know the basic rules of the road, and find comedy in putting life and property at risk.
you can't make a left turn on a red, unless you're in the left lane of a one-way road, and turning into the left lane of another one-way road. Same exact principle as the right turn.

That scenario was what i was talking about, sorry guys, not used to all these one way streets around here. They make my head spin.

First, I would have to care about the rules.. which I dont... second, life is risky, you have to laugh at it... :)
