We need to rally our cone man brigade!

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/597/story/783916.html

When Joseph Carnevale chopped up three stolen orange and white traffic barrels from a construction site to create a massive sculpture of a roadside monster thumbing a ride, the N.C. State University student saw it as a form of street art.

Raleigh police saw vandalism. ...

maybe he should have just bought the barrels

So this guy STOLE these barrels, but its ok because he cut them up and made them into a work of art??? This is not the only stuff he has stolen by his own admission. Lock his ass up. If he wants to create shit buy the supplies.

Whats sad is that these cops have nothing better to do than mess with this punk.. I thought it was pretty funny though. Technically he didn't steal anything, everything was returned.

Removing somones property without their permission is stealing. Then he cut them up so that is vandalism. If I come over to your house take your car, cut it up into a transformer looking thing and then return it thats ok since its art?

:funny:

I would suggest the vandalism charge, and drop the stealing charge since he didn't really steal it so much as vandalize it, make him pay for the damages and some sort of a fine. I mean seriously jail time for that is a bit much.

Jimbo, you ROCK at thinking the exact opposite of every other person on this board. WTF does that say about you?

Send him to prison.
He can take his cellmate's smokes and make a sculpture of a misunderstood artist getting fucked up the ass by his cellmate for messing with his smokes.

That I think for myself and dont conform with everyone else, and that I'm a gameing, sniveling, little bitch...

He says gaming like it's a social disorder... and I can count on my third hand the amount of times I've sniveled, ESPECIALLY when I heard your car got wrecked because you were drunk. You don't seem to understand how little sympathy a man, who through some ridiculous piece of luck survived a 65MPH crash cause by a drunk driver like you, has for drunken fools like yourself. Go back to making moonshine in the forest and stay off the fucking roads.

Before you just made that ridiculous statement, did you ever think we (read: not you) agree with each other not because we're conforming, but because we actually just happen to have common ideals?

If you're this good at getting into trouble with your ideas maybe YOU should start conforming and leave the thinking to those of us with the actual capacity to do so logically and effectively.

I would never conform with they way alot of you think.. I simply stated my opinion and you guys jumped on it like stink on shit. Most of you probably arn't strict catholics and should take that plug out of your ass and lighten up a little. If you don't like my posts dont fucking open them...

theft is to temporally or permanently take something with out the consent of the owner. lock his ass up.

i see your point. I think jail time is a little extreme... I agree with the other guy they should fine the shit out of him, or even worse make him set all those cones up for a while

Back to the story at hand, I think they should leave him alone. If the owner of the barrels is fine with it and likes it, whats the point? Teach him a lesson? I dont think a fine or jail time will stop people from doing the things people do. Plus it was hardly offensive or degrading. My thoughts on the matter.

i didn't think that the police can just make charges up like that.... the owner didn't file a police report, the owners aren't gonna press charges, they want him to re-create the structure..... to me this is a clear cut case, he isn't guilty of anything.....

remember it isn't theft unless someone reports something stolen.....

well you know how the police are. Boasting their authority.

Whoa whoa whoa, I missed something here, the owner of the barrels did NOT file charges?

Yeah, if the owners of the barrels were for it, the guy is free to go. I thought the owners were pressing charges.

NotoriousGreaseMonkey

No the owner did not want to press charges. The dude just got lucky with that one. He was still wrong IMO. There were other stolen items he used for "art" in his pictures and apt. Instead of stealing the stuff, show these ppl your work and see if they are willing to let you use their stuff, don't take it and hope it all turns out ok.
