Nope the Auto driveshaft will work and I dont plan on launching on slicks anytime soon.

i know that if i were to have an auto instead of the t56 i wouldn't have to have mine shortened. i figured it would be the same for the camaros.

While the GM 10 bolt isnt the strongest unit in the world, it can take some abuse, more than most would think. Its not made out of plastic and Ryans hasnt even had the cover off that I know of(I could be wrong because I know he changes his fluid regularly). If its lasted this long(70k miles), it will last a couple of good drag radial launches. Alen has cut numerous 1.8 60' on drag radials and his rear gears havent crumbled into dust like everyone thinks they will. I have never broken the rear gears in a car so I dont know what they will take as far as abuse but I dont think they are that weak. Again, I could be wrong.

it'll require a shorter driveshaft bo, not by much, but i dont have the measurements here with me at the moment. thank the pushrod gods you arent an LS1/m6 or you be killing p-rods again. j/k

i'm running an aluminum d/s and all i had to do was change out the end yoke with the stock one, same length though.

Its a crap shoot with these rears. Sure some M6 guys cut 1.7s with a 10bolt, while others completely stock broke them by just bolting on slicks. The torsen differential is a piece but upgrading it doesnt mean its bulletproof either. Next the 28 spline axles and c-clips go, not to mention the pure physical size (beefiness) of the ring and pinion are a real weak point. No matter what you put into the 10bolt (31 spline, spool, welded axle tubes, TA cover) the gears will stay the same puny size, which is a major concern.

Putting money into a 10bolt only to see it fail eventaully is a waste. Save that taller gear and rear cover money and invest into a 12bolt or ;) 9inch

Im not even going to bother with the 10 bolt, maybe get some 3.73s for fun but no slicks for me until I get the 9inch or 12bolt but this is way down the road. By that time, Ill prolly just buy Marks hand-me-down Moser.

Jons buddy has a 9inch with 35 spline, 370 gear and spool. Its out of a 95 TA. All for under 750.

I agree with Adrian on this one. Stay with your current gears and then be prepared to buy a new rear when you break the 10 bolt. I do think that you can put more stress on the stock rear than most people think, but everything I read says that you're on borrowed time drag racing a manual car with the stock rear. Used 12 bolts and 9" Fords rear ends always seem to be for sale in the CZ28 Car Parts for Sale forum.

If he isnt in a hurry to get rid of it and still has it when "that time" comes around, I snatch that bitch up but now, Im just paying all the bills and buying Christmas presents.

I know an auto will be more consistant at the track and will run faster if I build it correctly but Im bored driving my car and I KNOW I wouldnt be in I was ripping through the gears. There is a reason why most everyone wants a manual car, because its so much fun to drive. I cant afford to just chunk everything Ive done to my car so I figure Ill just make mine a 6speed and be happy.

Mark, how near future are we talking? You are going to have a fuckin monster:headbang:

i've fried a few bearrings in my rear end--i asked the service guy if it was from lack of maintenance or just abuse, but he didn't give me a straight answer. i know a stronger rear end is in my future b/c i've been told by several people that don't even race their cars that they've had to replace theirs at about 80k and over. i just hope mine lasts that long. :-o

I have beaten the shit out of mine, gone to the track ALOT... and street race ALOT... with Nittos, never slicks, but my rear has 100,000. I just change the fluid alot... got some more right now, changing it this week for the track friday... I use to have the dealership do it, $70 bucks and they remove the cover and drain it out, normal maintance and they are fine.

I am getting 373s for my rear though and just loosing them alittle so they take a little more abuse... should be fine as long as I dont add slicks...
